Night sights: Glock vs Meprolite vs Trijicon

Ok, I think I am going to move forward with getting the Glock 19. Went to a gun shop today to "fondle" one at lunch. I can see what some say about the 3rd Gen finger groves, but it seems to force my hand into a good grip on the gun. Also, the gun seems to point well in my hand. And the trigger is not as bad as some mention.

So, before I "pull the trigger" on the deal, I need some help with night sites. I would like to get them, so I am wondering about the factory Glock sights versus the Meprolite sights? I saw a 19 with Mepros this weekend and really liked them. The rear sight sat back to the back of the slide and I seemed to have quick acquisition with them. But I didn't have one with Glock sights to compare with. I saw the Glock sights at lunch today, but again, nothing next to it to compare with......

And I don't know anything about, nor have I seen close up, Trijicons.

Are there different Mepros, or just one kind for the G19?

IMO, Glocks sights and Meps both share the same problem: insufficient rear notch width and/or too fat a front sight leaves too little space on either side of the front sight when aiming. I much prefer Trijicons for this reason.

I didn't think about the Trijicons. I guess I should see if I can find a set around somewhere and see them up close.

The one thing I liked about the Meprolights was that the rear sight sat back a bit, even with the back of the slide, giving ever so slightly more distance for the sight radius. Every little bit helps, right?

Just when you think you have one decision down, another jumps up to bite you. Wait till I start looking at carry holsters!

I have had 5 sets of Trijicon sights (put that 5th set on my USPc). They have worked very well for me over the years which is why I haven't bought anything else.

Sure, it helps a bit. My experience using both brands on mid-size Glocks, tho, is that a more appropriate rear notch-front sight width ratio is a lot more important for accurate shooting. Up close, it's not a big deal, but at 25 yds and especially with 50 yd plates, the Meps suck relative to the Ticjicons. If you decide you want them, I've got 2 midsize glocks for which I need to swap out Meps (2 yr old) for Trijcons and would part with a set in a heartbeat at a bargain price.

I just heard of these and a local shop I called said that is what they are now carrying. I know NOTHING about them, but I will go searching. If anyone has seen these or knows anything, please share!! I don't want to be a guinea pig.........

Has anyone SEEN the new Glock night sites? Who makes them? I know they are Glock branded, but does Glock actually manufacture them? Anyone know whos Tritium tubes they use? Do they have glass or plastic lenses?

Another vote for Heinies. Best sight made for the Glock. also check out customglockracing.com for their race cut Heinies, with an even wider and deeper rear notch.

I have Meprolites on my Glocks and have always liked them.

The following comment has limited use at night, but in terms of how to pick sights:

I took a course recently and the instructor commented that you get a much faster sight picture when there's daylight on both sides of the front sight (when viewed through the rear sight of course). Meprolites do not have much room for light on either side because the the fat front sight.

I've tried a few different sights since then (on other people's guns) and find that he is correct about that!

Something to consider.

I've got 5 or 6 sets of Trijis but asked about Heinies and Novak bar-dot sights over on GT. Both the Heinies and the Novaks got very high praise.

I have Glock Brand night sights on my 26 & like them. The rear sight sits back like the Mepro that you described. The sights are metal, not plastic like the standard Glock sight. Glock makes the sight, but I believe the tubes are made by Meprolite.
