Night Sights...Yea or nay...and which are best?

My personal opinion is to go with the Tru-Glo fiber optic/tritium sights, for the purpose of improving visibility over stock sights in all conditions. However, they have a noticeably lower "absolute" brightness than pure tritium in low/no light conditions. as for durability i've experienced no problems with mine after 1500 rounds through a Glock 27 and im going to have them installed on any future defensive firearms i purchase.

I vote Yea, for Tru Glo TFO's or Trijicons

I have the TFO's on my XD45c and my XD9sc, and the Trijicons on my PX4 Storm and PX4sc Storm. IMO it is easier to acquire the target during bright light with the Trijicons and it is easier to acquire target during darkness with the TFOs. Either one will not disappoint you.

I've got night sights (both Trijacon & Meprolight) on most of my guns.

They always help me in daylight / twilight and dark.

I also have crimson trace laser grips on my two night stand guns.

I take them to the range and shot using just the laser (not the sights) .

Both are great tools to have. IMHO

have the trijicon on my springer ultra compact. they work well under most lighting conditions.

however, i feel from a pure accuracy standpoint that they are not as accurate other sights.

I carried a G22 for almost 8 years...before that a Hi-Power. At one point, on the G22, our group tried the Big Dot sights after meeting with a rep at a show.

10 yards and in, the sight picture is extremely fast compared to a 3 dot system. You basically don't need the rear sight. Just put the dot on the target, slack out, and fire. We shot on metal a lot and aside from pure point shooting, it's really fast. Once you get past that...and especially at 25+ yrds...the dot is just too big and covers too much of the target to make an accurate shot.

That's in the day light though. At night all you're going to see is a relatively normal glowing front sight similar to Trijicon or any of the others.

But if you can pick up that big dot and you're 10 yards and in, it's fast.
