I am looking for a set of night sights for my Glock 19. Anybody have some recommendations? What's an average set cost? Are they easy to install yourself or is it best done by a smith?

wait wait before you do anything do yourself a favor and get a set of xs big dot night sights, try them and you will be a believer i promise. they are the best sights out there for defense onthe market. they are big, bright day and night and they are fast on target they are great for anytype of shooting that you might need in training, defense etc.

they are easy as cake to instal yourself on the glock 19, it comes with all the tools and stuff you need. the sights are about $90 and they take 5 minutes max to put on and let the lock tite cure and you are good to go.

there is an excellent how to video by james yeager ceo of tactical response on youtube, he shows you everything that you will need to get the best sights on the gun and the best way to do it.

also he has 2 great videos on the use of the xs sights one is a how to, and the other is a shooting at longer ranges with the sights to disprove the arm chair commandos that say they aren't good for distance.

as well he has 2 videos to dimonstrate proper cleanning and lube of the glock line of pistols

just go to youtube and type in james yeager and go to his videos and you will see them. why you are the check out the shooting missology trailer, and the training course traliers.

have a good one.

If you send your slide to GLOCK they will install GLOCK night sights for $57 plus whatever the sales tax is in your state. They will also install Trijicon for more and if you send in the whole gun they'll go through it do any upgrades it needs for free. You pay to ship to them and they pay the shipping back to you. There number is 770-432-1202. They can also refinish your slide and replace the frame.

by the way i forgot to mention, get the "big dot" with the tritium rear and front dot they are the best. the front has a big white outline and tritium center.

I had meprolights put on mine, i had them ordered and put on when i was waiting the three day waiting period. I like them. I had them installed for free with the extended slide release. When buying a new gun, you can usually get free installation for stuff, just ask the saleman.

On my Glock 19 I had mine installed a couple years ago by Glockmeister at their gun show booth. They where running a special on Meprolites and the installation was free. Not sure how much or if they charge for installation but here's their website http://www.glockmeister.com. You can order the sights from them or send in your slide and have them installed.

The installation was quick and uncomplicated but the glocksmith did have a sight pusher tool and used a gage (likely shop made) to make sure the sights where aligned.

I just had some Trijicon NS installed on my Model 30 Glock. Glock offers Glock NS and Trijicon maybe other brands.I got the price from Trijicon. They wanted 99.00 for the sights and 30.00 to install them including return shipping. 129.00 total.I contacted Glock, for the same Trijicon sights installed it was 72.00 plus my states sales tax. This included the shipping back. I saved right at 50.00 sending it to Glock instead of Trijicon. This was a little over a month ago so I doubt prices have changed since then.

Are the trijicon sights any better than the glock sights? whats the difference?

Glock may use the trijicon or meprolights as the factory night sight. Im not sure. I know sig uses meprolights.

Night Sight Review

Glock OEM Night Sights are made by Meprolight, and are the best deal going! Israeli-made Meprolights were the first tritium night sights marketed for use on popular pistols and rifles. The OEM models usually have a staked-on front sight, which dedicates that sight to that gun. Aftermarket Meps have the common thread-on front sight.

Meprolight sights are rugged, well-made, low profile combat sights with a wide front blade to rear sight notch aspect. They are excellent bull's-eye sights out to 30-feet or so. Their large lamps appear bighter than other night sights. The lamps and white plastic o-ring markers are embedded in polished epoxy for easy cleaning and to resist solvents and grime. By design, the front sight appears brighter than the rear sight.

Trijicon sights offer tritium lamps surrounded by an aluminum sleeve, pressed into the sight housing, and covered by a sapphire lens. This lens makes the sight markers appear very sharp in the dark, Vs. Meprolight's glowing orbs, and protects the lamps from external damage. The narrower front blade to rear sight notch aspect will be appreciated by sharper eyed shooters at the range. The quality is excellent, but care should be taken to avoid harsh solvents when cleaning, as the white o-rings are painted on.

AmeriGlo offers the best selection (with the possible exception of MMC) of night sights available. Quality is first-rate, as the sights combine Trijicon lamps with white PVC o-rings for markers. A combination of sight profiles, blade and notch widths, marker configurations, sizes and lamp colors, offers something for everyone.

XS Big Dot sights are high quality combat sights, great for SHTF situations. Place the big white dot on center mass, and if your trigger control is good, you will hit your target, out to 30-feet or so. The night sight picture is pleasing and easily picked up. These are a specialty sight, and many will find them wanting for range use; conversely, others will master them for target use. People like them or they don't.

Judy had the XSBD sights on her G19; between her and my son, they shot poorly with them. Both improved immediately when we switched to Trijicons. I was actually getting the hang of the XS', but found switching between them other sight styles annoying.

Lamp colors are often mixed today, combining the familiar green with yellow or orange, even red or blue tritium lamps. The brighter appearing green, always goes to the front... I personally like the two color set up, using yellow or orange rear lamps, with the green front. Note that green and yellow have a similar lamp-life, while other colors such as blue or red, may have half the lamp-life.

These are just a few sights we've had first-hand experience with. There are other quality products, and some not-so-quality products out there to try. Any of the premium brands--ie., Novak, Heinie, Dawson Precision, Bomar, etc.---should be excellent.

I have Trijicon GL11 Novak sights on my G27 and I really love them, extremely bright and very high quality. They came with my Glock when I bought it but I believe they retail for around $130.

TruGlo TFO's are the only night sights I have installed on my pistols (Glock included) and I LOVE them hands down over other night sights. They glow in the daylight!

Sights

Leave them off, they are much inferior to standard Glock sights. Just my opinion but it is based on owning several Glocks and several other pistols with night sights. They are a step down in usability, accuracy, speed, and are a great negative in 99.9% of my shooting. I quickly remove, paint over, or alter night sights. They suck for everything I do. One caveat is I haven't been in a night time gun fight and hope to never be. They are a fad, like light rails, and some designs can be a negative for actual use.
