I guess the good folks at Nightforce work a four-day week otherwise I'd know the reason why they discontinued the 3.5-15x50mm F1 scope that I bought from them about two years ago. It's a very good scope but my guess is that they didn't want to cannibalize sales of the 4-16x42mm ATACR F1 scope which appears to be the only scope like it ... based on their incredibly slow website. Any insights?

Out with the old and in with the new. The atacr is about the same cost, but has better features. No reason to offer both.

I don't think the new atacr comes with rings though. That was a real bargain with the old f1.

Since the discontinued model is still for sale on a number of websites I wonder who would choose the 3.5-15x50mm F1 over the ATACR 4-14x42 F1 since they're similarly priced. The newer ATACR offers a capped windage turret, Digillum (whatever that is) and Zerohold (whatever that is) but has less elevation/windage adjustment despite the 34mm tube. It's shorter and has a bit more magnification but that means a narrower field of view. If I were making the choice today I'm sure I'd buy the ATACR. However, I have no intention of upgrading my Nightforce.

most buyers don't read forums, don't keep up with new model announcements. probably 95% of NF owners are not aware the new atacr FFP even exists

i'll probably get one, even though I dont' really need it yet. I've got a new sentinel stock coming, so i'll eventually need a new scope

The discontinued one is the only one I own and it ain't going nowhere. It is on an M40ish Remington and with the offset Doctor red dot I added in case they get too close :) it is my dream combo.
