I recently purchased an original Colt 1860 Army, serial number 87084. All parts are original, except the nipples (which are modern, with a stainless steel look).

After hours of internet research, to no avail, would any of you know the nipple thread size for this revolver, and where I could find replacement nipples (that look like the originals)? Thanks.

At the moment I don’t have time to look up the thread size, but I will do so later if no one beats me to the punch.

In the meantime Dixie Gun Works has parts and nipples for original Colt cap & ball revolvers.

Should you order something get a copy of their approximately 700 page print catalog. It is filled with valuable information and just about everything someone might need in the way of guns, gun kits, parts, accessories, supplies, etc. Cost is only a remarkable $5.00!

I have heat blued small stainless parts by heating dull red with propane torch and quenching in oil.
Might make the new nipples blend with the old Colt

I have an original 1860 Army made in 1863 with the original nipples and they will not take a #11 cap..too big. Here is a picture of the rear of the cylinder showing wear between the chambers which I think was caused by the hammer resting between the chambers as the gun was holstered and carried on a horse for a long time (some conjecture involved here):

Skinny, what happened to the safety pins on the rear of the cylinder? I recall seeing one real 1860 where they were bashed flat but there was still some sign of them.
I sse none on that cylinder.
