I'm sorry, but after posting in the 'Victim shoots kidnapper' thread, I realized that I had done a little hijacking. Then the more I thought about it the more I thought this should be a new thread.

Owen Sparks stated that if only we had some no kidnapping signs up the young lady wouldn't have been kidnapped. Then Vern Humphrey stated that we needed 'No Kidnapping Allowed' signs posted.

That made me think "If I just could make up a few signs, official looking of course and very similar to the 'No Guns Allowed' and; every time I find a no guns sign, stick up my 'No Rape Allowed' or 'No Robbing Allowed' next to it." It would be pretty funny and just might make some of the liberal sheep think a little about how stupid these gun free zones are. Then again, it probably would just go right over the top of their heads and think it was a really great idea. What does everyone think about this? South Carolina has a very exact definition on how the no guns sign has to look to be lawfully binding, so I think I will play around with a graphics program now. Do you know, other than the courthouse and maybe my voting place, I've never seen a legal 'No Guns Allowed' sign posted here in Charleston. Or maybe I just don't get out enough.

I've actually decided to put "no guns allowed" signs up on my property. I'll tell my friends to ignore the signs...that way, only people I don't know well will enter the property unarmed.

And some of those might be criminals!

;):D

Will it help the conservative sheep think as well? What about the liberals who aren't sheep? And what about the goats? Won't somebody think of the goats?

Safetychain, I live in Moncks Corner, work in North Charleston. I've seen a few places properly posted, though I would agree that most that post do so incorrectly. The two correctly posted places I can name offhand are the Azalea Square movie theater in Summerville and all the Goodwill stores around Charleston and surrounding communities.

The way I understand it is that the people that support gun free zones are bigots. They know that criminals won't obey these signs and don't care. They think that those of us that carry guns for protection are mentally ill and unstable people who can't be trusted with firearms. They are afraid that if they allow us to carry guns on their property we will suddenly commit some act of violence without any provocation or just cause.

Did I say they were BIGOTS! :banghead:

No doubt, plenty of conservative sheep...they know sheep the best. :)

So many signs I ignore most of them now. If I tried to read them all, I'd still be standing in some lobby somewhere reading pages of text, or driving 25mph down the freeway just so I don't miss the thousands of signs. Now they have installed electric signs over the freeways, a lot of them, with changing messages. They are huge and sometimes have several "pages" to read, and they slow traffic to a crawl. Reminds me of that 90's song by Tesla, "Signs". So I just try to know the state carry law, which is what matters here.

So in WA, we have a very explicit law stating where we can't carry. Can't carry in bars or "establishments that make (X%) of total revenue in liquor sales" (how am I supposed to know this!?) can't carry at "outdoor music festivals in which X number people are in attendance" or some such, can't carry at a school UNLESS there to pick up or drop off a student, and of course, federal facilities like the PO, VA, etc. I don't like crowds, don't drink much (and when I do like a beer, I don't like it at bars but rather at home or my buddy's home where we homebrew our own, usually with a good barbecue) and I don't have kids. So essentially, I can carry anywhere except the federal facilities I do have to go to.

Local law here cannot trump state law, so any sign stating "no firearms" isn't enforceable. The mayor of Seattle tried to make carry on all city property illegal --and Seattle has a LOT of property. The big thing was to make it illegal at parks, and due to how people are packed in that city, almost everyone uses the parks. They are the only public places with trees and grass (but they still call it the "Emerald City"?). This obviously was in conflict of state law, but they did it anyway even though they were told that the people didn't want 'em, and that they would be sued the instant the signs went up and they tried to enforce it. So after they blew all the money on the signs, the lawyers, etc., they were in fact illegal and unenforceable. Duh! But he though he could run over our rights because Seattle is considered "liberal". He found out we don't wear labels well and belive more in democracy than being liberal or conservative. One of the great things about this state and the people in it.

You may be wondering about courthouses since I didn't mention those. The law mentions "restricted areas" like jails and courthouses, but you can still carry up to the point of the restricted area where they must provide a check in (like a coat check) with secure storage.

You can open carry in almost all the same places, except in the car --that is considered concealed. But here if you can own a handgun, you can get a carry permit just by applying for one and waiting a few weeks to get it in the mail. "Shall issue", easy peasy. No classes or anything for WA (although with how many they are issuing now, I think some kind of basic safety and conceal carry class focused on this state should be implemented and applicable to all, including police, military, etc., no waivers).

So when I see no carry signs at banks, stores, whatever, I ignore them. They aren't enforceable here, all they can do is ask you to leave and then if you don't, they can enforce no trespassing. Whatever, if they do that to me, I won't go back ever, but that said, I've never been confronted when carrying anywhere --I carry concealed, but I'm not too worried about being made either. Places that tend to enforce no carry around here via no trespassing tend to get boycotted by the carry crowd once they find out. Especailly the open carry crowd, who are VERY vocal. Carry friendly places tend to get extra business. Like Starbucks. The one down the street has as many firearms in it as coffee beans from time to time.

I'm dating myself a little, but "Signs" was written and performed by the Five Man Electrical Band. It reached #3 on Billboard in 1971. I didn't know Nikola Tesla even wrote music. He was an impressive guy.

:neener:

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming...

Why don't they just make crime illegal and be done with it?
I love this! But its too hard to catch the criminals, they hide. Law abiding citizens are easier to find. They do stupid things like getting jobs and getting permits for the weapons they carry.

Safety~ if you make those signs I'll post them here too.
