No guns allowed, what to do?

Except for LE buildings, government offices, schools, bars, and airports, carry VERY concealed, or don't go there. If they don't support the Constitution and ALL the Amendments, they probably don't want my American dollars.

In NM, there are almost as many places prohibitting carry than allowing it. Private property that displays a no carry sign over-rules any state consent.
Walmart, for example is a no carry zone, and yet I constantly detect people who are discreetly carrying a weapon (either I see the printing or their mode of dress gives them away, e.g a smart-pack fanny pack with an unusually heavy weight that stretches the pack down and the straps tight...I/m sure most of you here that do CCW recognize others who also do the same).

One of my favorite Chinese Restaurants has a no carry sign in back of the cash register making it illegal for me to enter with a weapon, my bank on the other hand has no such sign nor does the airport and I am only restricted to not going past the security zone.

All places that dispense liqour are off limits but there is a bill that looks like they will allow for it, it just needs to get approved in the last committee.

I also attend a local college, that is a big no-no, getting caught would mean arrest, loss of priviledge to carry and expulsion. This is the one place I do not ignore, and for this I keep a cable in my car (like doc mentioned) and run the cable through the open gap where the cylinder sits when closed (a big advantage to carrying a revolver). I use a steering column lock as well because it may be easier to take the whole vehicle than try to cut the cable.

I have carried many types of handguns in as many scenerios under as many circumstances for well over 20 years, it took me that long to learn the KISS principle, for me that is usually a Charter Arms (or the new Taurus snub nose .44 when $ becomes available) as it is the smallest weapon with the largest hole, extremely easy to conceal with or w/o holsters, and it has the power I expect in the unlikely situation that it is needed.

Sorry for the long post, the point being that as usual, most problems demand creative yet simple solutions. I mainly ignore signs that prohibit carry and admit that in doing so am breaking the law. I will not carry at school, or a courthouse or anywhere I know there to be metal detectors. On those rare days that I feel it is wiser to leave the gun in the car, it is unloaded and secured with a cable. I have been caught and exposed and detected a few times, at work, in malls, Walmart's (my vest opened slightly just as I was reaching for an item and I saw the clerks eyes looking at my partially exposed shoulder holster), I got caught at work and I also got caught going onto Kirtland AFB, in all of the cases, NOTHING was done to me except at the base where they restricted my going onto the base until I secured the gun elsewhere, big deal.

I guess this is one advantage to living in NM. Lucky I was never caught in Chicago when I lived there (and carried everywhere too).

I have a lot of questions about carry but I don't want to create a new one and just ask one here. Can I carry any loaded gun if I have a carry or I only can carry a unloaded pistol or an empty reveolver? If I only can carry an unloaded gun but I have carried a loaded go to somewhere, will I be arrested or get trouble if it is found ?

I try to avoid situations where I can't carry. If I really want/need to go to such a place I stow my pistol in the car. If I'm caught by suprise I already have a "code phrase" with my companion/s, "Whoops! I forgot my cell phone/wallet!"

Not every situation calls for a bullet so I usually have at least a can of pepper spray as a back up non-firearm weapon. Sometimes that also includes a knife and/or an Asp baton. These are sometimes allowed where other weapons are not, at a minimum I always have my hands and whatever throwable items and improvised weapons are handy.

I try to respect the rights of private property owners the same way I'd want my rights to be respected and if it's a business that doesn't want me to have guns then I generally don't want them to have my money so it all works out.

Easy. Get the home phone numbers and addresses of your state's legislators who supported the law that makes such things possible. Telephone the one who lives nearest to you, tell him the situation, and ask if he would mind your dropping your handgun off at his home for his safekeeping until you've finished your business. If he declines, ask him why he voted for a law that leaves you defenseless. Then go on to the next legislator on the list.

I was told by a state bull that I could carry in a bar as long as I was not drinking, also I carry everywhere,I just keep it well hidden. Its better to be judge by 12 than carried by 6.

But how do you actually *do* it?

What I'm trying to picture is how you (read "y'all") actually do the quick change presto gun-in-trunk manouver. In Philadelphia (and really, in any big city), I can't imagine keeping a gun in my car. My car (10-year-old Subaru, nothing conspicuous about it) has been broken into twice, and other friends have had their cars broken into, too.

But even if I thought my car was *generally* safe from thieves, how do you manage to do all this stowing, cabling, locking, hiding (esp. in the trunk) without being watched? Do you take the gun off before you open the car door and hide it in a newspaper, which you innocent-whistling decide really ought to be locked in the trunk so it doesn't get bored and go mate with other newspapers?

Open carry sure sounds nice ...

mt truck was broken into and they never found the truck gun

I keep a little pocket rocket in there, I keep the truck looking nice and trashy.
I hardly ever throw stuff like to go wrappers and news papers out....I know which bag out of all the trash has my gun:evil:
Thieves and cops never go through garbage!
Safe???? safes are for rich folks and are targets my beat up 1990 ford doesn't look like much so they look elsewhere and if they look inside they see trash and a few coins...they go for the coins and leave the trash.

I have a CCW license, but when I travel to work I leave the gun locked at home and rely on other, non lethal means for self defense. Reason is my employer would terminate immediately anyone having a firearm on company property. Period. I don't like it, but that's the way it is.

I know some people who work for employers with similar policies carry and lock the gun in their cars while at work. Personally, I would never lock a gun in a car. As I understand it, if that car gets stolen, you are in deep, deep doo-doo. And, if the gun is used in the commission of a crime, you are an accessory.

Now, when I carry, the gun is with me at all times. No exceptions. If I come across a place I can't enter, I never lock it in the car and then go in.

I'm curious what others think about locking guns in cars.

In arizona it is an open carry state
so you don't need a ccw as long as it can be seen, and any business that chooses to restrict firearms they must provide a gun check or you don’t have to comply.

I'm not certain you are 100% correct.
It is illegal to carry in a bar or any other establishment that serves alcohol to be consumed on the premises.
Not long ago I had to debate with a gentleman on your thoughts about gun checking.
If you enter a restaurant that serves alcohol and approach the owner asking to check your gun, you have already broken the law just by entering with your gun.

I am a holder of a CCW, and the owner of a restaurant.

The law says you cannot carry in here. I have a sign on the door stating no firearms allowed. This is to protect you from getting in trouble, and me from having trouble with the liquor licensing people.

But, I would prefer you do carry your weapon with you. Just don't let me see it.

It's actually kinda funny. I live in CT- so we're talking anti-gun state here.
So much so, in fact, that it doesn't even occur to shop owners that anybody might be carrying a gun.
As liberal as this state is, i don't racall ever seeing a "No firearms allowed-please rob us" sign in the past 2 years that I have been carrying (with the obvious exception of post offices, federal buildings, etc...).

I was at the hospital a few nights ago. A sign outside the doors says "Please... no weapons..." among other things.

When please is involved it is more of a question than a statement.
