Time for all interested hunters (gun owners) to attend an upcoming hearing at the State Capitol. This is the type of legislation we will be seeing all year during this legislative session. The state is in a financial meltdown and all the blissninnies can think of to do is ban this or that. Details below, news at 11:00.

A committee hearing has been scheduled for a pair of California bills that would ban dove hunting and hunting with hounds.
Assembly Bill 1190 (AB 1190), which would ban western mourning dove and white-winged dove hunting, and Assembly Bill 342 (AB 342), which would ban the pursuit or killing of any mammal by means of a hunting dog, will be heard on March 25 by the California Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. and will be held in room 437 in the Capitol Building.
The U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance (USSA ) is encouraging California sportsmen who can attend the committee hearing on AB 1190 and AB 342 to meet in the basement cafeteria of the California State Capitol Building at 8 a.m. March 25. The USSA says those who cannot attend should contact their assemblymen by calling (916) 319-2856 or by using the "Legislative Action Center" link near the bottom, right-hand corner of the USSA Web site, www.ussportsmen.org <http://www.ussportsmen.org>.

Time for the state penal system to do away with its tracking dogs; humans are mammals too.

I can't say that I'm in favor of using dogs to actually KILL the game, but the rest sounds pretty stupid.

Don't they use dogs to hunt down Mountain Lions, which have been known to kill domestic animals and human beings in California?

Giant,

Were these hunting groups doing anything when the Democrat Legislature and sorry, sorry Governor were passing law after law against handguns and so called "assualt weapons"?

I have a feeling that alot of these guys are for the prohibitions on handguns and those evil leviathon semi auto "assalt rifles". I remember seeing some of these hunter types write editorials how they were for handgun control, etc.

Alot of us handgunners told you hunters you would be next but you wouldn't believe. Maybe you should get these groups a little more involved in opposing all gun control legislation if they want help for themselves now.

I don't like these bills but I find it kind of ironic how the hens have come home to roost for "hunters". I'm not in CA anymore. However, when I was I fought hard against all the gun control shoved down our throats since that simpering PIG Davis became Governer.

Alot of shooters could care less about "hunters" because they stabbed us in the back on alot of the bills that have gone trough in the last 4 years. Maybe you should have to get a Shotgun safety license to buy a shotgun now. Hangunners have to get a license thanks to the lethargy of many gun owners in California.

I hope these groups did not support the restrictions on handguns and AW's but I bet alot of them did because they never thought it would affect them. I hate to say we told you so but we did.

That's my rant. God luck shooting these bills down. They will be back every legislative session from now on if you keep putting Democrats in control there.

My God, people!

This is insane. Madness. I'm going to check into this one. Are the doves endangered? Are the hounds suffering in some way? Does it cause over-harvestation? I can't wait to see their reasoning?!?

That's true QD,

Neither are salt licks or bait. But they are a traditional method of hunting, and I hate to see goverment intruding without good cause. As I say, I'm off to check on this nuttiness.

The liberal nutcases out here would tell you nobody needs to hunt, period. You can get meat at the store. Nevermind that hunting is what gave man his wily and inventive nature to succeed over the animal kingdom. We're more civilized now. This stuff makes my head spin. I love animals, and watching a dog chew up some critter sounds gross, BUT, step by step they will outlaw every form of what they deem uncivilized until it spreads from here to wherever you are. These folks will probably never hunt a day in their life, but their moral loftiness deems it necessary to impose their will on you, wherever you are. As long as the minority, like PETA, is loud and vocal, and the majority, like the hardworking ranchers up in the hills, are quiet...the squeaky wheel will get the grease and we can kiss our freedoms goodbye.

Hey, we can just play virtual reality dove hunting on the Nintendo and its just the same, right?

[/rant]

No, those will make you violent! Can't have that!

While we're at it, lay down on this nice cozy cot here while I wrap you up in this nice soft padding. Oh, first we'll put the feeding tube and catheters in place. You won't need to get up for a thing! You'll be comfy cozy up on your shelf where nothing can hurt you or make you think mean thoughts!

Just lay down now, and fold your hands...

I'll be there. I can't very well ask anybody to show up for the two pro-CCW bills (not scheduled yet, I'm tracking them!) and not support other related issues.

Anybody else going from the SF Bay Area? I'll chip in for gas money...

Don't they use dogs to hunt down Mountain Lions,

Not in the PRK, they banned cougar hunting several years back.
Now they are coming out of their ears.

Russ

Russ, Are you talking to me? Are You Talking To Me!!!! If you are, take your load of vituperation and dump it elsewhere... You know nothing about me, yet you attack me by referring to me as "you hunters" and in statements of: "That's my rant. God luck shooting these bills down. They will be back every legislative session from now on if you keep putting Democrats in control there." Please, you know nothing about me! I am a gun owner like you! I am a registered Republican, I have voted in every election for the past forty years and I do mean every election, even the ones where getting into the polling location meant walking in the rain, cold, and mud (uphill in both directions). Perhaps you disrespect me because I am a life member of the North American Hunting Club, even though I have not hunted anything in fifteen years. I am also a member of The National Rifle Association, California Rifle and Pistol Association, NRA Second Amendment Task Force (founding member), Second Amendment Foundation, Gun Owners of America, Gun Owners of California, Wildlife Forever, United States Olympic Shooting Team (financial supporter), Civilian Marksmenship Program, and other RKBA organizations of that ilk. Also, I am a pistol, revolver and high power centerfire rifle target shooter, reloader and RKBA activist.

Russ, let us not display childish hypocrisy, or demonstrate to others a lack of advanced logic. There are people and groups out there who we are not in total agreement with, an example of that would be "some hunters". However, we, all of us should make every effort to welcome those people into our camp, because their loss is our loss. When their guns are banned, ours will soon follow. Finally, if you were here and willing I would offer to drive you and I to the Capitol, where we would make ourselves proud by helping our fellow gun owners shoot down (as it were) another bunch of useless legislation.

Be an american patriot, vote to win...

I am sure Kali hunters, have got hunter forums.

They need to hear from us.

There's more or less no bear hunting here either, except in unusual circumstances.

What this is REALLY about is boar hunting.

See, the first problem with boar is that like any other herbivore, they will breed right up to the available food supply and then starve. Only predation or starvation will EVER control their numbers. And by the time the dang pigs are hungry, so is more or less everything else, esp. native herbivores like deer.

The second problem is that no native carnivore can take 'em. They're too fast for bears, they're too *tough* for cougar. The only predator that can take 'em on is Homo Sap.

Now granted, you can hunt boar without dogs...but in areas with low piggy concentrations, they ain't that easy to *find* without dogs. So the non-dog hunters only go to the places which are just over-run with piggies and by that point, there's already severe damage to the ecosystem by these NON-NATIVE monstrosities.

You know how much it costs for a boar hunting tag? Five bucks for SEVEN pigs last I heard. The only reason there's a "tag" at all is so they can make the hunters pass a safety class.

Giant,

No, I was not referring to you as an individual and intended no disrespt to you personaly. In my first sentence I asked where these "hunting groups" you linked to were when Red Davis and his commie Legislature were shoving anti handgun and AW laws down our throats at every opportunity. I should not have used the word "you" when referring to hunters. It was a generic term to desribe the situation. I don't know and don't care if you hunt but my attack was not against you but rather those hunters who see no need for handguns or AW's.

Perhaps I should have used the term "some hunters" instead of you. You are quite correct, I don't know you or where you stand on RKBA issues. Now I know more. If you took offence, I apologize. Again, this was not intended as a personal attack on you. but rather on the many "hunting" groups who have been luke warm or anti gun when it comes to restrictions on handguns and AW's.

I have seen too many of the "Plaid shirted, shotgun carrying hunter type" write newspaper and magaxine editorials, go on TV and make their opinions known that they think "reasonable gun control measures" regarding handguns and AW's is fine with them. Why, no honest man needs a handgun or an AW!

If these groups you linked to have people in them of this ilk, which I guarantee they do, I find it ironic they are now whining because THEIR pastime may be taken away by the wonderful California government.

If you are fortunate enough to defeat these bills now, I can almost guarantee they will be back. Jack Scott and others brought many of their anti gun bills up year after year until they passed. As long as the Dems are in control in CA with no checks, this will continue to happen.

I too voted in every election since I was eligible to. That was 1976. I can say I have never once voted for a Democrat. All they want is your freedom, your money and yor guns. If you have been voting for 40 years, you remember a different California. I certainly do.

As a part of these hunting organizations, you should contact them regarding the general assault on all guns in California. The politicians say they don't want to take guns from "hunters and sportsmen". They really want all guns banned. Incrementalism. Handguns first, then semi auto rifles then shotguns. I have seen too many "hunters" on the wrong side of this issue and that is the truth, like it or not. It fries me. I am not alone in this perception, believe me.

We need all gun owners on the same page. There should be no tolerance for banning or restricting access to firearms further. Enough laws. I know California quite well and it needs a major shake up politically.

I'm a life member of NRA and belong to the CA Rifle and Pistol Assn. and GOA. So what? Until the people can put a stop to the facism put on by the Democrats in California, it won't matter.

Again, no attack on you personally. My attack is on those "hunters" who think they will not be touched when the politicians ban or restrict handguns and AW's. Now they are after hunting. Did this surpirse you?

Russ

eeevil black assault Labs

WOOF! :D

Russ, this whole misundertanding could have been avoided if we would all just use King James English! "Thee" is singular, and "you" is plural. (The Southern equivalents are "y'all" and "all y'all".)

Oh, the penalties for giving up The Old Ways!

;)

Russ, thanks for your gracious clarification. I share your sentiments, but's it's easy to see why Giant took offense.

As for the "reasonable gun controls" hunting crowd, I'd love to tell them STEW IN YOUR OWN JUICE, TWERPS!

But unlike them, I realize that we're all in this together, and we had better stand together. Lest we all hang seperately.

Quartus,

Thou art correct!

I didn't want to cause offense to anyone on THR but I have heard too many of the "They won't take our guns away" crowd over the years. I hope these non-sensical laws proposed by those idiots in California wake some of them from their slumbers.

We should post a list of all the BS phrases the HCI crowd uses. "Resonable gun control", "Common sense gun control".

I bet there are a dozen I can't call to mind right now. Anyway, I'm glad you understood the point I was trying to make and thanks for your support.

Russ

Russ, I am at an age where I'm not surprised by anything I see in this strange world and even stranger California.

I accept your most sincere explaination and apology. I do understand some hunters and some target shooters, shotgun hunters and even bow hunters statements such as; `They will not be interested in taking my toys, they are only interested in banning those evil black scary assault rifles and weapons like those hugh .50 caliber guns -- Who could have any possible use for such a big gun?'

Bow hunters? Yeah, that's right! The socialist communist, american hating folks of California want everything, anything that could be used as a weapon, anything that might be scary looking, anything they are afraid of. In many counties of California recent laws have been enacted that make it illegal to purchase by mail order knives, axes, hatchets and ammunition of any kind. Not only have they banned knives, even a barbicue knife and fork set and a kitchen knife set is illegal to purchase by mail order. Those counties are Napa, Marin, and Yolo, though Yolo is the only one where purchase of any kind of ammunition by mail order is banned. Also, the city of Los Angeles has banned purchase of nearly all kinds of ammunition. (the source for banned items by county is the mail order catalogs put out by Gary Olin, Sportsmans Guide.)

So folks, we may have to carry water for other groups that we disagree with, but it is in our collective interest to attend hearings and vote, get others registered to vote, because until we vote the communist out of office California will continue to suffer a taking of freedom.

Let's use their language and their incremental strategy to defeat them.

For the children -- Our children! Step by step let's vote them out and return freedom to not just California, but to the nation.

Giant

Y'know what, screw California. I'm to the point where I think that all the idiotic legislation that those commies come up with should be written into law ASAP. The sooner they push it over the edge, the sooner G-d will rain fire and brimstone on sodo... er... California. Hunters, shooters, sane people, pack up and haul it East. Let the idiots in that state deal with the environmental mess that will result. Let them deal with an economy collapsed by communism. Let them deal with a rolling blackout that rolls over the whole state and then stops dead. I would pay to see a candlelight press conference about just how horrible it has become in that state.

Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona: Invest in barbed wire, and lots of it. Trust me on this one, or the refugee crisis will crush you once the fun starts.
