I just place an order with PV and didn't see a thing.
I was just going to post on the component thread PV has BE86 on sale. Seems like a strange thing for them to do if it’s about to become unobtainium.

Vista Outdoors suspends production of Alliant powders. All current orders are being cancelled. World shortage of nitrocellulose is being blamed. This according to an announcement by Powder Valley.
Here's their link...look again and when you find it, then repost.

I'd also like to see a link to this announcement

World shortage of nitrocellulose is being blamed.
There is a current shortage of nitrocellulose.

The worlds main sources of are Russia and the PRC. Russia isn't exporting any as they are using it up for their military. The PRC is restricting export

It's on PV's Facebook page:

The Nitrocellulose shortage has been ongoing for quite a while. Articles in media sources all over the world about it, heck, even France has noted it's a problem. I can't speak to whether the posted message is real or a fabrication, but some PV employee did put this on the PV Facebook page.

FYI – we have just received the following message from Vista Outdoors (the parent company of Alliant Powders):
“Due to the worldwide shortage of nitrocellulose, the Vista Outdoor supply agreement for the sale of Alliant Powder canisters has been suspended for an unknown period. At this time, we have no timeline for the fulfillment and will be canceling outstanding Alliant orders in our system.
Representatives will provide updates and coordinate new orders based on availability.”
We have heard mixed messages from various powder suppliers about the availability of nitrocellulose, and therefore powder, over the past several months. This is one Manufacturer’s analysis of the situation. We are posting this so you can have all the information we have and draw whatever conclusions are right for you.

So referencing current world events, my take is this:
  • Vista Outdoor sold ammunition component companies to Czech (Czecho-Slovak Group) - https://shoot-on.com/update-czech-company-to-purchase-major-american-ammunition-brands/
  • Companies include powder manufacture Alliant Powders and primer manufacture CCI/Federal and Remington along with brass/bullet manufacturer Federal/Speer/Remington
  • CSG is a large defense/military contract company and also owns Fiocchi
  • As war in Ukraine and threat to NATO by Russia continue, demand for defense/military small arms munitions likely increased
  • Note that message from Vista Outdoor posted by PV says, "Alliant Powder canisters has been suspended"
What is "canister" powder?

Canister powder is what is manufactured for retail sale to reloaders while keeping powder burn characteristics exact/close to published load data.

My guess is entire Alliant Powder production capacity just got switched to supply military "non-canister" powder to supply military contract munitions orders.

Okay ...

So until further notice, I HAVE DECIDED to switch over/reconsider my powder selection to Hodgdon/Winchester/Accurate/Western/IMR "CANISTER" powders referencing same/comparable powders thread - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ble-powders-during-component-shortage.890865/
  • Promo/Red Dot/Bullseye loads will be replaced by Titegroup/No 2/WST/W231/HP-38
  • Sport Pistol will be replaced by N320/W231/HP-38/Zip/W244
  • Unique/Power Pistol/BE-86 will be replaced by Universal/WSF/No 5 (May consider back CFE Pistol/AutoComp)
  • Power Pro 300 MP will be considered back to W296/H110
  • AR Comp will be considered back to H335/Benchmark/TAC
  • Reloder 15 will be considered back to H4895/Varget/BL-C(2)/Staball Match

@LiveLife is spot on.

There's no problem getting VihtaVouri or Hodgdon; some minor limits on what Accurate and Winchester can be found; IMR, Ramshot, Shooter's World are maybe tighter still. But Alliant has been ridiculous.

People are just going to move over to what they can get. And they are probably going to discover some pretty good loads with other powders. And if Alliant ever comes back to the cannister market, they are likely going to have some difficulty getting back to anywhere near where they were. Vista Outdoor was not great for them ... CSG may very well be the nail in their coffin. At that point, everything in the cannister world is basically distributed by Hodgdon.
