Talked to the boss at SHOT, and the rumors of a single stack 9mm from Kel-Tec are apparently "Completely False" according the factory reps.

Too bad...

Probably saved me $300 or so. Too bad, I was expecting them to go for this.

Whoops! Bad on Me! :D

Yep, it's called the P-11

How are they? Have'nt seen any around at the local shops. Is that strange?
I've only seen the P 32 and the P3AT.

Edit: Just went over to the Kel-Tec site. Interesting.

I think George kinda messed up with this one...He would have had a best seller with a single-stack 9mm...

No kidding. Their only competition would have been really high dollar guns (kahr h&k ...?). Their only real competition at their price point would have been makarovs. While i LOVE my mak i'd take a new production gun in 9mm over the heavy little 9x18 any day.

Id be happy if they just came up with a p11 with a good trigger. A single stack with a good trigger would be even better. I have a p11, and Im trying to get rid of it, due to the fact that I cant adapt to the awful trigger without shooting all my other single action guns, really badly. The p32 trigger is dao, but its not that bad.

Yes, the P-11 trigger pull is pretty bad. If you really like the gun, but just don't like the trigger pull, you can have a gunsmith smooth it over for you. My favorite is TJ at TJs Custom Gunworks in CA. I've dropped his name a few times here on the boards, but honest, I'm not a paid advertisement ;). TJ does spectacular work, and especially on trigger jobs.

A single stack 9mm with the same type of trigger as the P32 and P3AT would be money in the bank.
The only reason I can figure they're not going for it is because it would cannibalize the P11 market.

Well, I've had two P11s.
Never liked the triggers, even after "fluff-n-buff".
I won't buy another one.

I've got a Kahr PM9 that I love.
Even if KelTec made a single stack, the craftsmanship wouldn't be on a par with a Kahr. (a little Dr. Seuss there)
The fit, finish, trigger, and accuracy are light years ahead of any KelTec I've had. (And I've still got a P32 and P3AT.)

Still, I was hoping to take see a P9S or whatever they would call it.

Oh well. :(

bradvanhorn: Thanks for the gunsmith name, but Im still going to try to unload my p11 for money for a kahr. I had a chance to fondle and dryfire a p11 which had a trigger job done on it(not sure by whom), and I still didnt like it. I have two friends who have p11's as beater guns, and love them, but I just cant get used to the trigger.

I have to say that this is a bit of a disappointment for me too. The only reason I can see them delaying the devlopment of this is to keep from cannibalizing the sales of the P3AT.

I don't really think that the P11's sales would be hurt too much. You're talking about two different animals. One would be a hideout gun similar to the .32 and .380 series, the P11 is more of a belt gun with the double stack mag and the ability to take S&W standard cap mags.

Why no single-stack? Well, to make a single stack one has to have a narrower slide than the P11. That means you either have to have a MUCH stronger recoil spring, longer slide, or taller slide. You end up with a funky looking pistol that is only 4.5mm narrower at best. So, what's the point? If you can build it to hold 10 rounds, why not? I think that some people expect way too much out of the laws of physics. You want a gun the size of the P3AT with the power of a 500 S&W that kicks like a 22. There are natural laws that we must at least try to follow here, people.

Oh, so how did Kahr do it? Look at what Kahr really did. Their PM9 is the same weight and .1" narrower, but carries 4 less rounds! They did make the gun narrower, yes and they do have innovations. One is the offset link. That's really innovative and good. So, if you want a single-stack KelTec, buy a Kahr!
