No Reaction to Open Carry at all

To those who raise the concerns of a gun take-away... Are you suggesting, in your opinion, that this is still a notable concern when carrying in a retention holster (thumb break, etc.)??

Retention holsters reduce the concern.

I also don't fall for the false notion that open carry makes one a "target" by criminals . If that were the case , we would hear of many LEOs being attacked because they were obviously armed .

Who says it's a "false notion"?

LEO's cannot be directly compared to non-LEO's. They mostly carry in retention holsters. They also tend to be trained in hand to hand combat and weapon retention techniques. As a matter of duty they are supposed to pursue and apprehend BG's, where non-LEO's mostly seek to avoid BG's. But most importantly, BG's know that if they take a cop's gun and whack him with it, every cop for 100 miles around will be after them with extreme prejudice.

Some of these things swing one way and some swing the other. But all are different from what would apply to most non-LEO's.

And with all these factors operating, a number of LEO's get their guns snatched every year.

The tactical position of a small older person whose kung-fu and aikido days are far behind them is very different than that of a young, large, fit person skilled in hand to hand combat. This means that the deterrent to a snatch attempt represented by the little old person is way different from the large young person or the LEO.

Maybe people where open carry is common can chime in . Exactly how many people have been "targeted" due to their firearm (not by LEOS) ? Have there been criminals roaming the streets looking for armed people to take their weapons?

Maybe they could if there were any such place. But there isn't.

To elaborate, wearing blue jeans is "common". Wearing shoes is "common". Eating at fast food places is "common". Anywhere you go, you will see many people doing these things.

OC isn't "common". Not even in a place like Prescott. And certainly not in Phoenix, NH, VT, or many other places where it is legal.

Anyway, to the OP, have fun in gun-friendly Prescott. :)

I think when open carrying that it is important to wear the appropriate hat.

It's more than that, it's a necessity. Sunburns make me irritable, and irritable is no way to open carry :D.

I live in Ak and Michigan, When in Michigan I open carry a 625, The two times I've been in Arizona I opened carried a Ruger 97.

Chiming in from Carson City, NV. Openly carried on Saturday right through a jam packed Wal-Mart and nobody said a thing.

Look, OC is legal in Nevada and CC requires you to put out about $250 between the class and the application---and for what? Permission from the government to do what you can already do? Or, maybe to show that you are qualified to carry when the shooting qualification is at 3,5, and 7 yards? All that says is that you can hit the broad side of a barn. :neener:

I have a hard time justifying spending $250 to exercise a right that I already have. That's more money than my new little CZ 82 cost me!

I have been OC more now that it has warmed up. On the days I work (drive truck) I go shoot with some friends after I get back. It's 40+ miles back to my house and I am not going to just leave my firearm at home and do the extra driving to go get it.

One thing I find funny is that it is amazing how many times I hear "hey you know it's illegal to have that" I just tell'em not here for me.

For the most part I get no reaction at all as far as I see. I don't really pay any more atttention other than being aware of my surrounding which I do any how.

Open carry is what we should all shoot for. The more it happens, the more people see it the less concern it will cause. It should be the right of the people to "KEEP AND BEAR ARMS" at any time or place!

I have open carried up at my cabin many times and don't get a look at all.

People ask, "What happens if someone grabs that one!" I say, "I just shoot them with my concealed backup gun!"

Just because I'm OCing does not mean I'm not concealed carrying. MN is a Permit to Carry a Handgun state so no concealed necessary.

open carry

I've met up with several guys from OpenCarry.org here in Delaware. Open carry is legal in this state but rumor has that it's frowned on. The experiences that those who choose to open carry is that most people don't notice or assume that you have a job that requires it.

Even the people who have had contact with the police are mostly positive. Only one person was detained and had his gun 'held' for a few days.

At most the general public either ignores, doesn't see or they quite down and behave.

And this in one of those liberal, east coast, blue states.:what:
