No doubt about it: I just love to watch Clint play "Dirty Harry"! :D

Sadly but expectedly, Father Time has finally caught up with our beloved icon. I believe it's about time we look for a worthy successor...

Who among the current crop of actors is the most eligible to take over and play the part? Who must take over the reins from such an actor perfectly matched to the role?

And most interestingly: Who's going to pick up that SW 50 Magnum and most threateningly declare:

MAKE MY DAY, PUNK!!!

Your choice?

Hey, Nick Nolte could be a good Dirty Harry. Tough, rough voice, big guy, good with a gun.

Get him off booze, get him a haircut and he has some years left in him.

I honestly can't think of anyone who has that grizzled edge that Harry had.

Not enough "men" in Hollywood these days. No wonder movies have generally stunk for the last 15 years or so.

Tommy Lee Jones in my opinion is of the same caliber actor as Clint aka "Dirty Harry". His roles as Deputy Sam Gerards in the U.S. Marshal flicks are of the same type character. But then again Tommy Lee is no "spring chicken" either. Hard to think of someone from the younger generation that has the ability to step up. Of course Harry has awful big shoes to fill.:)

Not an actor, but Charlie Daniels?

Or Ted Nugent. He's a reserve sheriff's deputy too, me thinks.

Useless trivia: Clint Eastwood was fourth choice for the Harry Callaghan role, behind John Wayne, Paul Neumann, Frank Sinatra.

Prior to "Dirty Harry", Eastwood did a lot of roles in westerns, and some horror flicks...in that vein, maybe Val Kilmer could do a Dirty Harry prequel, launching from the Doc Holliday character he portrayed in the movie "Tombstone".

then again, there's Vin Diesel....

Out of all the actors, one name stands alone.....

Mr. T!!!!!!!!!!!

"Make my day, FOO!!!"

"You lucky, sucka?"

"Stop dat jibba jabba for I lay down da hurt!"

R. Lee Ermey.

Yeah, I know he's getting a touch long in the tooth. So what?

LawDog

If only Michael Chiklis from The Shield hadn't played Curly in the Three Stooges movie he'd probably fit the bill ok. He plays a ruff-N-tumble no-nonsense, take-no-crap cop. He just doesn't have that intimidating, piercing stare like Clint, and he would need more humor, one-liners and a bigger gun.

Eastwood is just like John Wayne, one of a kind.
Trying to reprise and recreate the dirty harry character
would be blasphemous.

Some icons cannot be duplicated. Attempting to do so
only soils the memory of what once was.

I'll just pick up the Dirty Harry movies on DVD and patiently
wait for the next cultural icon.
