Another "Dirty Harry," replace Clint? Impossible!

Maybe there's another character in the wings that can stand beside Clint, but not t fill his shoes! And if that's who I'm looking for, I'd say someone like Jet Li, Vin Diesel or someone we haven't even seen yet.

Come one!

The only choice listed that I would go with is Tom Selleck. He is large enough and a good actor. Plus unlike most other actor scum he is Pro Gun! I am sick of actors who make millions off of movies where they are toting guns only to show up with some Democrat spouting anti crap!

Tom Selleck all the way!

Jamie

Dirty Harry

Not to replace Clint but to stand along side. Tom Sellick gets my vote and then Kurt Russell.

Dolph Lundgren (The Punisher)
Timothy Dalton (he can do American accents)
Samuel L. Jackson (but he's Shaft, already)
Keith Carradine (often co-stars w/ Selleck)
Alexis Denisof (Wesley from ANGEL--can also do American)
Michael Rosenbaum (Lex from SMALLVILLE--has worked w/ Eastwood before in MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD & EVIL, just needs hair)

But I don't think ANYONE could fill Eastwood's shoes (or his shoulder holster  )

I agree that no one should ever assume the role of our beloved Inspector Callahan other than the one, the only Clint Eastwood.

As for successors, I like the sound of Tom Selleck or, what about Keifer Sutherland? A couple of episodes ago in "24" he orchestrated the apparent murder of a terrorist's family, broadcast live for the captive terrorist to see, in order to force info from the bad guy. Jack (Keifer) had a squad of masked baddies holding the terr's wife and kids at gunpoint and instructed them to pop one of the kids, which finally broke the terrrorist down into giving the info. The next scene shows the whole "murder" was all a ruse with no one getting hurt...that's a kind of Dirty Harry-like tactic!

Out of the current possibilities, three spring to mind:

Kurt Russell
Jeff Bridges
(drum roll)
Dennis Frantz

Mike Douglas if he could recapture his out of control nerd personna from Falling Down? For that matter, Frederick Forrest from the same movie? (The neonazi surplus store owner)

After seeing "Training Day", I could see Denzel Washington playing such a role.

Maybe John Travolta....these guys came put on a "tough" act when needed.

There is only one Dirty Harry. There will never be another.

I predict the next big action hero of Schwarzenegger size fame is going to be either A. Vin Diesel or B. The Rock. Vin can actually act (Don't think XXX, think Pitch Black if you have seen it, holy crap he was tough in that one). The Rock has personality and charisma, but he isn't an actor.

Edited to add that Chow Yun Fat is probably the only guy out there who even comes close to Clint Eastwood's tough but cool demeanor.

Probably the most famous character that's been played by more than one actor is that of James Bond. However, I just don't think Hollywood could pull such a stunt with the Callahan character. I was very disappointed with the third Jack Ryan. A lot of folks were. This would probably be the result if Clint was replaced as Callahan.

Cheers.

Correia just might have something there... Chow Yun Fat can do the tough guy thing, and be suave at the same time. I doubt they'd cast him as Callahan though, his English is a little rough...
