What are my options (short of a custom) for getting a repeating carbine chambered in 45 Colt that is NOT a lever action?

If I recall, it's a bit fuzzy, Remington made a pump action rifle in 44 W.C.F and possibly 45 Colt. I don't recall the model number other than it had a half in it. Model 2 1/2, 3 1/2, etc.

I've handled Uberti's pump 45, and it's nice, but heavy. 5 pounds of barrel and 3 pounds of stock, action and magazine, and magazine. Not nearly as graceful in the hand as a Winchester or Marlin.

Taurus makes their "Thunderer" pump rifle copy of the Colt "Lightning" pump.
Think "Cowboy assualt rifle...".
A friend has one and it's a "hoot" to shoot.
You can hold down the trigger and "pump" the rounds out.... We had a call in on us one afternoon to the S.O. complaining we were shooting "some kind of machine-gun".
(I knew the deputy and sheriff was a personal friend of mine, his father-in-law had a LARGE local gunshop....). We got a good laugh out of that call....

The Taurus is "decent" quality. I don't suggest shooting heavier than "factory" equivalent loads in it due to original design.... It's essentially the same as the .22lr pumps "grown up", so isn't in the same league as the Winchester '92's and '94's...

It is also decently accurate. 3" at 50yds easily with my 255gr cast bullets over 7.8gr of Universal for ~1,200fps from the 24" bbl.
Not quite as accurate as my Win '94, but my buddy has killed deer and a bunch of armadillo's with it.... Besides, it sounds like a 'bass' .22lr as it's not particularily loud. He has put a tang "peep" sight on his and it's just too-much-fun to shoot....!!!
like a Machine-gun.....
I don't know about the Uberti's, but this gun handles and feels like my "Legacy" Win. Mod '94 w/24"bbl. Balances and handles nicely and isn't at all heavy.

Hey Goose, I've heard that that Taurus has had quite a few problems with jamming. No problem with the one you have shot?

LGS had a pump copy of the Colt Lightning. Maybe the Uberti. Dunno. This one was beautiful. REALLY nice wood, case hardened steel. I just had no real use for it.

No problems with the one my friend has.
However, we don't shoot Jacketed Hollow points or semi-wadcutters through it.
For the first 100rds of so, the action was a little "hitchy", but wore-in quickly.
We did shoot some 185gr XTP's I'd loaded up for him as he "thought" before shooting the LRFN's, that he'd want to use the JHP's. They shot way, way high however... And no more accurate than the LRFN's. After taking deer and armadillo's with the LRFN's, he wants nothing else. Likes them so much, he got a 5.5" Ruger BlackHawk in .45lc to go with his rifle....

FWIW; my Win. M94 won't feed SWC's AT ALL....!!! but it does feed well with Hornady 250gr XTP JHP's.... And shoots 1.5moa at 100yds with them over 20.0gr of #2400. However, don't even think about shooting that load through any 1873 Colt, or such.... It's in the .44mag class... It gets 1,750fps from my 24" bbl. Think .45/70 "short"....

Tex - I can't speak to the Taurus Thinderstick's ability to handle Ruger level loads (pity, cause it looks a good hog gun) but while I am no Rossi fan, the Rossi lever gun will handle hot 45 Colt loads. Get one used and do the Steve's Gunz tune up. Wonder how the Hornady 250 gr FTX would work on hawgs?

There's no reason for "Ruger level" loads from a carbine. Consider that a standard BP load from a SAA will go through a horse the long way. Keep it inside 100yds and it will handle hogs just fine.

I don't know about lengthwise through a horse, (I doubt that), but a 120lb deer, certainly.
In fact, when my friend shot the deer and armadillo's, we in fact were pig hunting. Most of our "pigs" run 75-300lbs, or within the extream range of size (roughly) of our deer.
Pigs are certainly in peril from a .45lc with lead bullets.
My LRFN's are the Lee mould. They've got a much larger meplat than the original flat point round nose factory swaged bullets.
A "carbine" or rifle load with the loading we are using is ~1,200fps. Not enough to expand greatly, but enough shock to be ultra effective. Can't say just how much expansion as I/we haven't recovered one shot into game.....
Consider that the .45colt was orginally a duplication of the dragoon revolvers which indeed were "horse pistols".
If they will take down a 1,000lb horse, they'll do on 300lb pigs....
The military didn't even for long issue such powerful handgun loads. The original 40gr BlackPowder load was soon loaded down to ~28gr, which in effect duplicates the .45acp loads.....From a handgun.
The only real reason to increase the m/v of these loads is to flatten trajectory. At 1,200fps. the trajectory is essentially that of the .22lr. A 4" high zero at 50yds yeilds a zero at ~100yds... and 4" low at 125yrs... About as far a you can see to shoot where we use such "hardware".... So not a "handicap".

The deer he has shot have been diagonal chest shots, and have penetrated 18-25" of deer before exiting with 1-2" exit wounds. Short double blood trail...
