How many shotgun shells can the Norinco 1897 TrenchGun magazine tube hold as I have heard 5, 6 and even 7 (and that is not including one in the chamber)?
And is there a plug in the magazine tube that can be removed in order to add more shells?
Thanks.

I don't have the trench model, but my 20" Norinco '97 fits 6 2-3/4" shells in the magazine. No idea if there is a plug, but I doubt it as six shells end to end take up all but the last 2" of the 16" magazine.

Does anyone know if the production generation affects this model shotgun as I have heard that it does not and if there is a plug in the magazine tube?

I have a nice gash on my left hand that is starting to heal from one I held in the gunshop.

the bolt had such sharp edges that it sliced my hand when I opened it.

I had thought about buying one, but after that, no way.

Its not a real winchester, and it doesn't play one on TV.

save your $ and get a real one.

Yeah, sure.

Like original Winchester Model 1897 shotguns didn't have sharp bolt edges. (Hint, they do.)

Sounds like operator error, to me. Best not buy a Garand if you're that accident-prone. :scrutiny:

Some of us are only semi-evil. :) It's really a rite of passage, everyone who picks up a Model '97 racks the slide and catches the back of their hand. Once is traditional, twice is a slow learner...

Old style guns can be very un-ergonomic. That was back when folks figured it was their fault and part of the learning experience without getting a lawyer and suing for the boo-boo.:what:

97's don't have a manual safety either (only the half-cock position). Nowadays I don't think a manufacturer could get away with designing a gun without a safety, considering our lawsuit-happy society.

All of the Norinco 1897 TrenchGuns are of the last 5th generation, they were a fairly late addition. I don't know how many they hold but my normal model holds 5 shells.

I do not think so, the 97 is a very unfriendly firearm to disassemble and I'm pretty sure that 5 shells is it. Although a 6th almost fits in, close enough that you could probably remove a couple of coils from the spring and get it to work. To be honest I only use my 97 for cowboy action so all of my shell loading is done through the ejection port. With a little bit of practice you can do this almost as fast as you can cycle the action.
