Norinco 1911 value?

I just stopped by a local gun shop and found a nice Norinco 1911 for 340 plus taxes, is it worth that? It has some holster wear but otherwise good shape.
I would not buy that. Few weeks ago LGS had Taurus rail gun in very good condition for $450. That gun did not need anything added to it except for combat light/and or laser. International price for new Norinco 1911 .45 is about 250-300€.

I don't know if the newer Norincos available in other parts of the world are as good as the ones we got before a certain autocrat banned them.

I paid $500 recently for a Norinco in excellent condition. I consider that an upper limit price for Chinese Norincos (yes, there were some Norinco licensed 1911s made in Turkey). Mine came with a good trigger and had not been worked on by anybody. I didn't want somebody's project gun that may or may not still be a serviceable gun. I also wanted what I bought -- a 1911 with GI style sights (better than original GI sights), arched MSH, and short trigger. I've been very pleased with it.

I would rather have a Norc than a Taurus. That is just me. I personally would rather have a Norc than a GI style Philippino or Turkish gun too. I actually have all three of those for what it is worth. For me a good Norc is the top of the heap for the basic budget 1911s. Provided you look it over for issues I can't think of a 1911 at the price you stated that would be better.

If one is wanting a bunch of other features then one needs to look at the cost of adding them to the cost of finding an equivalent factory gun. If one wants to do a lot of work often you can find something like a Dan Wesson or even a semi custom gun that might make more sense. That said some people want something custom and all their own or enjoy doing the work themselves. Nothing wrong with that.

FWIW I picked up and unfired, magazines in wrap, parkerized, Norinco 1911 for $500 private sale.

The spare mag was still in its wrap, tools, paperwork...everything.

I have two Norincos, an SKS I bought NIB around 1990, and a 9mm Tokarev that I got used just a few months ago.

The Tokarev has given me no problems at all and has better sights than I would have expected.

The SKS has absurdly good trigger and accuracy - much better than my Russian version. It has put a lot of meat in the pot for me.

I might hesitate to buy a Norinco because I didn't like it or it seemed defective, but I certainly wouldn't hesitate to buy it just because it had "Norinco" stamped on it.

Try some JHPs in that TT. While mine was flawless with FMJs I averaged 2 to 3 stoppages per magazine with JHPs.:barf:

As for Turkish guns, I've handled some very well made examples. They have some ultra-modern manufacturing facilities there and state of the art CNC machines. I'd consider something like a Canick long before any Chinese gun on the planet. They may have my personal data and SSN now but I won't voluntarily give my $$ to them.

Saw a nice one today at the Concord NC gun show for $500. Didn't dicker on it as I wasn't in the market, but have had a bunch in past years and all were excellent guns. Some tho, were more accurate than others, but all functioned flawlessly.

In as much as norcs have been banned from import for like a decade if you buy one on the used market who will get your money? Do you make sure you don't buy any other Chinese goods?

As to the Turkish guns. I wouldn't put a 460 Rowland conversion on one, that's no problem with a norc. I also have yet to see a Turkish 1911 be the base for build by any well know 1911 smiths. I have a Turkish gun. I don't shoot it much but I think it's a good value I think a reasonably priced norc that's been looked over is a better value. Ymmv.

All a matter of what you want - that's what makes our country such a great one. Never said a Norinco is not a good gun or a great platform to use as a base. It may very well be so. I'm only saying the Canicks that I've seen have been quite nice for the money. Any Norinco that I've looked at was in the past - like over a decade ago.

I'm sure that many things I've bought will funnel some amount of money to China. Probably no way to avoid it. That being said, I simply don't choose to buy a firearm that's made there. By the same token, I don't own an AK or any gun in 7.62X39 caliber. Simply a personal choice because I have too many buddies that didn't make it home, probably due to that caliber and its country of origin. Whatever. This forum isn't a politically centered forum, so I'll leave it at that. I'm an old guy and set in my ways! :) Yep, I'm probably passing up many fine products. But... I admit to being part hypocrite, as I have Japanese, German and U.S. made vehicles!

To each his own, especially in the way of guns! If someone gave me a Norinco, I'd certainly shoot it!

R.

Edit... oh... I also own some German guns! I guess I may be more of a hypocrite than I thought! Perhaps it's an extension of serving 20 years on active duty though what we call the Cold War.

I purchased my .45 Norinco a year or so ago for I believe the mid 4s. Did a few things to it and it's an excellent pistol. I see them bring mid 4s to 6 all day long. I also see NIB ones bringing between 6 and 7. Wish we could get a one day annual "amnesty" purchase from Canada.

Years ago at the Shot Show, I overheard Bill Wilson being asked if he would work on a Norinco. They were just hitting the country then, and he said yes. That did it for me. Bill Wilson doesn't work on junk. I have never seen one, personally, but I have heard far more good than bad about them.

Once you get past that " Model of the 1911" stamp on the slide..... LOL Did they ever correct that slight grammatical error?

I paid $329 for mine 5 yrs. ago. When I want to shoot 1911's it is the one that comes out of the safe. I replaced the grips on mine, the rest is stock. It is accurate and I have never had a ftf. Jump on it if you want a basic 1911.

I picked up one soon after they started to show up in the U.S. . The one I got shot to POA & was very reliable. I put some night stghts on it & it has been one of the best 1911A1s I have ever used! It still is one of the guns I use for S.D.! Never had a problem with it at all. I also have a couple of Tokarovs , 1- 9mm & 1- 7.62mm. All of these guns have worked well. I would have bought the 1911A1 on the spot after checking it out. They are well built & last! You will be happy with it!

Well guys us I went and picked her up, and besides a few idiot marks, she is in great shape. When I get home I will post pics.

My error as to OP. Great find by improperyaged. Glad you got it and look forward to some pics and report.

She shoots great. I only fired one box through it but they were completely trouble free. Also it feels as though someone has done a trigger job on this as it is very nice, crisp and consistent. Breaks right around 4 lbs
