Norinco 7.62x25 & Ammo Question

I was looking at a Norinco 7.62x25 that looked similar to a Tokarev but not quite... anyone seen or handled one of these?

Think I'll have to pick it up when I go to get my Kahr. He usually charges me $30 for a transfer unless I buy something, so I might as well...

Also, is ammo built to NATO spec ever corrosive? There's a ton of 7.62x25 on gunbroker but I want to make sure it's decent, clean ammo.

There is no such thing as NATO spec 7.62x25 ammo.

There is a lot of corrosive 7.62x25 ammo out there--especially the Eastern European stuff.

I'm not aware of any new manufacture 7.62x25 ammo that is corrosive.

Yeah, thought it was no longer in widely use thus no NATO spec but that's the BS the seller is spouting.

Any idea of the ammo in the link above is corossive or not?

I think what JohnKSa is trying to tell you is that Yugoslavia was never in NATO, and NATO did not issue any 7.62x25 ammo. All of this type of ammo was used by the Communist Bloc nations under the Soviet Union, China, and their allies.

I'd be wary of buying ammo from someone so off on his facts...

Yugoslavian, berdan primed... I'd be willing to guess that it is. However, it's also best to keep in mind that berdan priming does not guarantee corrosiveness.

I've come to the conclusion that corrosive handgun ammunition isn't a big deal. It's not as if it coats the barrel with a highly reactive, caustic material... it's only a form of salt, not acid. Some Windex with ammonia D is what I use to initially scrub the barrel, breachface, etc, before regular cleaning (a whole of 3 minutes added to cleaning time, no big deal).

I've used tons of corrosive ammunition through my military surplus firearms (sans gas operation) without any problems of any sort. Some corrosive ammunition out there are an excellent value.

Unless you plan on foregoing cleaning within reasonable time and live in a tropical environment, there's nothing wrong with corrosive ammunition. Boxer primed NC ammunition is just more convenient, that's all.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I've shot plenty of corrosive ammp in Enfields and Mosins. I just think a pistol might get slightly less attention as quickly.

But then, it is a pretty good price. I guess I could just clean the darn gun!

His price is way high, at least for here in Ohio. Surplus here goes for $7-8 a box of 70. For his price you could be buying new S&B ammo that is non corrosive and reloadable.

Thanks... I think I'll be going with the S&B, I have some ideas for reloading and would like the brass so I guess I won't worry about trying to save a few cents per round.

Stay away from YUGO ammo in 7.62x25. It has been causing many problems. Some guns have been damaged. Do a search on Cruffler or any C&R forum.

I have shot the S&B and the Chech mil surplus ammo. The surplus stuff is hotter and I have'nt had a problem with it. The S&B is clean but I had too do a double strike on a primer.
