Twice I was able to walk into Cabelas during the darkest days of the shortage and get primers. I don't think the online inventory is connected to the store inventory in any way.

I agree... And because of the Hazmat fee you cannot order online and have shipped to the local store either. That is a big benefit otherwise. No shipping fees.

Just got some stuff yesterday from Cabelas. Everything came as it should have, and shipping was quick (and free).

Thankfully, I haven't had the bad experiences with them as some of you have.

I don't mind Cabelas as long as it's in person. They have good customer service and they sometimes have things in stock that I'd have trouble finding elsewhere. The only issue I have with them is backorders. I have never seen a company screw around so much with backorders. Their system is an outright disaster. I had primers and ammo on backorder...started in Oct last year. It would say available in 0-1 weeks when I bought it..then 2-4 a week later, then 0-1 a week after that, etc etc. 4 months later it still hasn't arrived. Meanwhile, I bought the same item locally off and on (they seemed to get it in stock every few weeks or so) in the retail store during this entire waiting period. What the heck?

I decided to switch the order to another item that was supposed to arrive much sooner. They cancelled the original one and wouldn't apply the Cabela's bucks discount I had to the new order.....I told them about it up front but they still messed it up and said "oops...well there's nothing I can do about it now". I ended up never getting the second item and gave up on the first. If it says backorder, there's a chance you might not get the item for a VERY long time despite what the website or customer service tells you...or you might never get it at all. I wouldn't waste my time with that crap again. I'll just go to a store.

I like Cabelas because with ship to store, all I pay over listed price is sales tax. Gas for the road trip gets amortized into other tasks that day in a big circuit and so is essentially zero. My only complaint with Cabelas is that they refuse to ship powder and primers "free" to the local store :D but really I've never any real problem with them so far.
