Not sure how much longer I can resist buying a Glock

my two cents from an old 45 shooter i now own 5 glocks and no 45's go ahead you will save money in the long run on repairs as i have spent 0 on repairing any of my glocks.also in shooting over 20 000 rounds of 40sw and 2000 of 45cal no k-booms just lots of fun.

Personally, I'd go with the Glock 26. In fact, I rather go for th G19 (best gun Glock makes, IMHO).
For a close in gun fight, 9 will be fine.

By the way, I see you're in Columbia City. Is there a gun shop there now (gasp! In Columbia???)?

Also, since you're looking a a CCW gun, do you have a Maryland permit?

Life is too short for pretty pistols who just don't work right, even after you spend some money on it.

Get yourself a GLOCK. :D

It sounds like you are partial to the .40

So, I say go with the 27. Hard to beat for a compact, reliable, powerful and reasonably priced CCW. The .40 is a higher pressure round with a bit more bounce to the oz. than the standard 9mm, but who uses anything but the +p+ in 9 anyway?

I have never seen a KB that was not caused by faulty (overloaded) ammo, and any gun will turn into a grenade with enough of an overcharge, even 1911s.

My advice:

Buy it. Shoot it. Enjoy it. Then report back to us.

I thougth about getting a Springfield XD, until I found out their customer service is crap, and getting parts is harder than raising the Titanic!

Glocks are great pistols, and their customer service is second to none.

Why do you say thier CS is crap, and why would parts be hard to get? I love the XD and so do alot of others who have 'em.

XD parts?

I love the XDs too. I had heard a rumor that the parts were not going to be imported any more, but I do not know for a fact.

I never had an XD fail, so I do not know about service either. The Glocks are awesome too.

I guess I sorta like em both. :)

From talking to dealers about the XD's, I've learned their customer service is slooowwwwww and unreliable. Check out the price of their magazines, for instance!!!

I liked the grip safety, but until they get their act together on service and parts pricing, I'll stick with my Glock. You can call their USA home place in Smyrna, GA, and actually talk to a real person, who is there to help.

I think I'm gonna end up getting one myself - a G26.

I've been looking for a small 9mm gun, and I just can't find a good alternative for it. I thought the Sig P239 would be my choice, that is until I felt one in my hands. It just didn't sit in my hands and feel as good as I thought it might.

I have a 26, and one of my shooting buddies has the 27. So I get to shoot 'em back to back a lot. To me, the recoil of the 27 is quite a bit stouter than the 26. My follow-up shots are quicker & I find I shoot better with the 26. My friend, who is, bigger, stronger & younger than me, prefers the 27.

I just could not resist posting in this thread. Don't do it dude, for the love of man, don't do it!!!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Just kidding. :D If I had my choice I would get the G19 because I had one.

If it feels right to you , then get it. You won't be the first one to fall to the "dark side."

I cannot believe this thread has this many posts! Nothing against the poster, either you like Glocks or you don't. Guns are not ugly, they serve a purpose. I personally have 2 glocks and am acquiring a 3rd. They are generally awesome firearms. There are 1911's that are jamamatics, but many are not and you will hear from many on this thread will sing the praises of their XYZ 1911 that is far superior to the glock because _____. All opinion! Shoot it, and buy what you shoot the best!

I have fired several. No problems, but I just don't like them much. They do hold their resale value well, so not too much risk in trying one. You may really like it. Mine have been reliable and accurate. I just preferred a manual safety since I have usually had that or a very heavy trigger pull. Besides my safety concerns I can't say anything bad about my experiences. They have always gone boom for me.

OK, for those who say get an XD and my Glock urges will go away- that will probably only make them worse! I absolutely love my Taurus PT140 Milennium Pro, and it was supposed to be bought INSTEAD of a Glock. My polymer M. Pro and my polymer Ruger KP345 are now among my favorite guns and have really whet my appetite for the Glock, the archetypical polymer pistol. The XD is also a good pistol, I'll probably really like it, and that will make my "need" for a Glock even more pronounced.

For those who say variations of "go with the ugly but reliable gun", completely unnecessary. First, I really like the looks of my functional, polymer, Taurus PT140 M. Pro and Ruger KP345- polymer does not=ugly. My "pretty" CZ 75B is very reliable and even my Charles Daly 1911 is pretty good. And yes, I actually even like the looks of the Glock.

On 9mm v. .40 (for me), both have their advantages. For a while 9mm was my favorite auto caliber. Right now .40S&W is my favorite defensive caliber. I'm sure it will change again in the future. The advantages of .40, 9mm and .45, are so balanced that it really is hard to pick a favorite in reality. For the advantage of easier ammo selection for the .40 you have cheaper practice with the 9mm, for the extra round in the 9mm you have a little more power in the .40. It is so hard to choose. I think I'm slightly leaning towards the 9mm in the Glock 26 (or 19 if I go bigger) since I have the .40 in the similar sized (about halfway between the 26/27 and 19/23 in size) Taurus PT140 Milennium Pro. Then again, there is the advantage of ammo interchangability with my PT140 if I go with the 27 or 23

By the way, I see you're in Columbia City. Is there a gun shop there now (gasp! In Columbia???)?

Also, since you're looking a a CCW gun, do you have a Maryland permit?

Nope, there are no gun stores in Columbia. However, there are several nearby (some within 10min or less of Columbia).

As for the CCW permit, no I don't have the ever rare MD permit. I just like concealable guns. Part of it is in anticipation should MD law ever change (or the more likely event that I should move). Primarily it is that I just like these very practical sized guns. Also, it is occaionally possible for me to carry when out of state (the FL non-resident permit is good in PA where I do go on occasion).

My Glock 21 was my first autoloader purchased. It is a freaking hand cannon. Wow! Looks like a big chunk of metal, not "cool" looking like a nice Kimber .45 but it is also gonna work after being buried in mud for ten years and swished under a puddle. IMHO, the 9mm vs .40 debate is not want to open here but I would say get the 9mm because ammo is going for under $6 per 50 round box. Then you can go and shoot 500 rounds every month or so and be a real good shooter with your Glock. Once you are a skilled Glock shooter you can start widening your horizons with a G22 and a G21.
IMHO, start with a 19, and buy a 17 mag for a spare. I personally have fired Glock 18 mags out of a 19 and hoody-hoo it is fun if you learn the Glock trigger trick, not letting the trigger go all the way forward, just fan it, and you can fire almost as fast as a full auto machine pistol. With the G18 mags that is a blast! Raised eyebrows at my local range the first 100 rounds I blew downrange.

Chaim-

Maryland prices are embarrassing.

Not sure what your local friendly FFL charges for transfer fees, but you can buy a NIB Glock anything here (30 miles north) for $475 or so. It costs @ $10 to mail it to MD FFL. If you have a non-rapist FFL down there you can be set up with new gun for $525.

Used can be picked up anywhere from $350-425. Heck, I could drive one down and drop it off at your local shop. Don't be held hostage to idiotic MD prices!

I am going to trade my 27 which I have owned for the past 10 years for a 26. I recently purchased a 17 and am very happy with the pistol. I figure might as well have a bug to match. The 27 shoots very well but is robust with 180's in it. The reports I am getting on the 26 is they damn near outshoot the 17's. I know a guy who just purchased a 26 and after a couple days at the range traded in one of his 45's for another one! He is planning on teaching his pistol courses with the subcompacts they shoot so good. So off I go tomorrow to trade the 27. Hope this helps.

I just went over to the dark side myself. Always said that they are great pistols but just not for me. After great internal struggle, I picked up a 23 with Trijicons about a month ago and absolutely love it. It shoots dead on. It's easily concealable. I, too, was between a 27 and a 23. If you're planning on putting the two round extension on the 27 it's the same size as the 23. Also think about conversionablility (wow, I just coined a new word, I think). Eventually I'll pick up a .357SIG barrel for it and I can shoot another caliber in the same pistol.

I love 1911s, Sigs, Glocks--I really enjoy and appreciate a well made pistol.

I really wish I hadn't waited that long to get one...

Mark

PS I highly recommend a 3.5# connector!

Glocks are a good choice

I have a G19 and I love it. My first pistol ever, and no regrets.

Fired over 8000 rounds through it, and not one malfunction or problem.

IMHO they are a very well designed, easy to takedown, clean, maintenance.
