Okay, I'm jonesing for some Novak night sights on my BHP pretty badly. I've shot guns with Novaks on them before, but I thought I'd get some opinions from those who have them.

To be fair, I love the standard MkIII BHP three-bar sights. My only big thing is that I really want (I'd even say "need") night sights.

So, Novak users, can I get your two cents?

Wes

I have them on my Springfield Champion and really like them.

Novak has the cleanest design of fixed sights in my opinion.

Wes, I've not had my SIG GSR for a week yet and I already want Novaks on my BHP. Their design makes gun handling nice because they're shaped to not snag on anything. They're also quite nice on the range providing a quick and clean sight picture as you've seen shooting guns equipped with them. Essentially they're a sight that does the job so well you don't notice them because there aren't any annoying faults making you take notice.

I've got some Novaks on my SA 1911A1. They aren't the night sights but they provide a clear, sharp sight picture that is big enough to use under stress. They are tough as hell too!

Wes,

I have Novaks on a couple of my HP's. I have found I much prefer the larger (1911 size) ones Don Williams put on my latest project gun. Also if I were to order another set it would be with the wide notch rear site that Novak now offers. The wider rear sight notch is the one reason I prefer the Heinies on my 1911’s over the Novaks on my HP’s.

I recently had Novak install a set of their night sites on my SW1911, and I like them just fine. They are plenty bright in the dark and are also easy to see and align in daylight. They look to be very well made overall.

Just had Colt install Novak night sights on my 1991 Commander. Very crisp sight picture. Noticeably sharper in the dim light at indoor range and well defined in bright sunlight. Good quality product. Not one bit sorry I had them installed. Seriously considering installing them on my Kahr MK-9 also.

Wes, I believe that they are good quality sights and would serve you well.

A fellow instructor had two Glock-22’s with Novaks on both. One had a standard square rear notch opened to ~ .160,” and the other was fitted with what they call the “Ghost.”

Most sights are way too tight IMO for fast work with both being .125” front / .125” rear. A great way to test is to aim at a distant target in good light with the front sight out of the rear notch. (High) Then, keeping a sharp focus on the front sight, lower it into the rear notch. If it stays the same color and doesn’t lighten (turn grey) then it’s OK for your eyes. If it does lighten in color it’s too tight for sure. The same is true for aperture rear sights (AKA - Peep Sights) on rifles.

When I was shooting PPC in the 70’s I ended up with a .140” rear and now it would be at least .160”. Novak just came out with wider than standard rear sights. I think that they are .145” wide. It’s tough for me to navigate their web site, so I now type into Google search exactly what I am looking for such as “Novak P226 Sights.” That works better.

Anyway, my partner and I had the opportunity to compare at length the standard square notch rear Novak (opened to ~ .160”) and a Novak Ghost. The ghost looks strange and is called by a local sheriff’s deputy / firearms instructor “1/2 sewer pipe.” It is a large “U” shape and measures .300” across the top. We compared them at 25 yards slow fire, figuring that the Ghost would be too wide for any precision and were quite surprised to find that there were no differences in grouping between the square notch and the Ghost!

Then we compared them at 15 yards rapid fire (.40 S&W 155 grain JHP) and found that the ghost was faster for sight acquisition / reacquisition for each of us. I’m sold on it now. It comes both with and without night sights. We didn’t try .125” rear in the comparison. It would have been really slow.

I ordered the set for a Glock-17 and they were dead on at 25 yards, but a friend who was carrying a H&K Compact and used the H&K front with the Novak Ghost rear couldn’t get the POA/POI to match at 25 yards, even with two different H&K front sights. If it was me, I’d order a “set” of Novaks and send the gun to them. For an extra fee they will make sure that it’s on the money. FWIW.

There was a mention in an earlier post about not being able to hook the rear sight on anything for one handed Immediate Action in case of a stoppage when only one hand is available due to injury. That’s very true. One hand IA could even occur if one is not injured, but is holding on to a ladder, ledge, boat rail, etc. You’d might want to experiment with your pistol to see if there was another way to rack the slide other than using the rear sight one handed.

Rspy,
Kent

high quality sights, and they still have the 2 weeks or less turn around time....and they fit the design of the HP itself.... I am sure you read more about them on the old FN site....quality them, quality now.

My SW1911 came with Novak sights, the 3 dot version.

Good quality sights that give a clear sight picture.

ok ive called and called the novak place but no answer.... heres my problem i want a rear sight on my beretta and it offers 4 sizes on the website i dont know which one to get oh my beretta is a 96

I got factory Novak three dot sights on my new Smith & Wesson 1911;
and a form of Novak three dot (Trijicon) night sights on my Les Baer
TRS, and I really like 'em. The standard sights on the S&W are very
easy to pick up, while those on the Baer are harder to see during
daylight hours.
