So, last weekend I became inspired to build a gun rack. However, this was to be no ordinary gun rack. I've always loved the movie Jurassic Park, and I grew up with dinosaur toys and videogames. Now, as a 23 year old, I get to have some of that joy and nostalgia back!

Now, not only do I really enjoy having it, but it was pretty fun to make as well and I've been throwing around the idea of making more, based on different movies and or videogames.

So far I'm thinking I could make designs based off of Aliens, Resident Evil, Halo, and Half-Life. I'm throwing around the idea of making others and selling them, possibly at the Wanenmacher gun show in November.

Cute idea LOL, I'd up grade the brackets. I would be interested in one for Aliens. Not sure the wife would understand (LOL) at 70 I am going through my 4th childhood.

    Good luck on the project.

How about Gus's Hat Creek Cattle Company door from "Lonesome Dove"...

A Borderlands themed rack would be a good idea especially since they have many manufacturers in the game (Jakobs would be my choice!). I'd be careful selling them with any copyrighted images/titles on them....

Neat. I just picked up the gun from Spaceballs (Calico M100) and it would be fun to do some Spaceballs themed rack for it.

Nice rack but you need the SPAS-12 to make it truly authentic.

    P.S.--I loved that movie too.

rugerdude, I'm not sure your new gun rack would go with the mix and match (?) decor of our place, but it appears as if you did a great job. Very cool.

    Sweet!! I love it!

I've always wanted to build the gun cage from Boondock Saints. Your idea seems less expensive.

Yeah as soon as someone said copyright I was like "dang, you got me there!"

Does anyone know what exactly would be a copyright issue? Certainly the use of the Jurassic Park logo, and perhaps the In-gen logo as well. But say I paint a rack that mentions the colonial Marines from Aliens and even have it labeled as Cpl Hicks' weapon rack. Do character names fall under copyright? What about ship names used in various sci-fi movies and games?

I thought about a Borderlands one, and actually Jakobs was going to be my first pick too. Since it's a fictional company I doubt there would be any issues, plus the color scheme would instantly let you know it's a borderlands reference.

Well, I am pretty certain that every logo, character name, ship name, etc. is covered by the copyright of the original production. That would mean you'd have to have an agreement with the owner of that copyright to be able to sell your product with their logo on it. (Creating such things for your own amusement is a much greyer area.)

I know there are plenty of (just as an example) small time vinyl sticker companies who make various bumper and window stickers featuring various well known characters and logos. (Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes seems to be about the most popular.) I think selling such things without paying licensing fees is technically illegal but the kinds of mom & pop shops making them are so small they fly under the radar, usually.

That stinks in a way, because it is such an incredibly fun idea! But some of these things may be in the public domain now, I don't know. Might want to send a PM to any of our attorney pals here and ask their input.

Great sense of humor! Do you remember the movie about giant man-eating worms atacking a desert community?

There were a pair of survivalists that had a bunker, with an Elephant gun in a glass case, with a sign: "In case of emergency, break glass"? IIRC, that was the high point of the whole movie.

Tremors. There were sequels and even a SiFi TV series. Good movies.

Oh God, I loved Tremors! Well, not so much tremors 3 or 4, but 1 and 2 were great!
