I am sick of reading post talking about compromise. I understand you may be tired, and the media might be spinning events not in our favor, but do not think for a minute we have lost anything! Florida is about to issue its One Millionth CHL next week. Illinois Federal appeals court has ruled the state MUST set up right to carry. Ohio just passed more PRO gun legislation. WE ARE WINNING BATTLES!!! We are not the minority Antis portray us as we have tons more support and funding than them they are just being louder. Instead of whining on internet forums and dreaming up ways we might be able to keep some of our rights, spend your time writing your representatives!!! Tell them you will not compromise! Get loud be heard! Take someone new out shooting and get them on board. If you take this laying down or by pulling up a seat to the "table" you are just as bad for our cause as Feinstein herself. What happens in the next few months may very well shape gun legislation for years to come. That legislation can be positive, or restrictive, but it is what we do today that makes all the difference.

How could you spin events in our favor?

I agree that passivity isn't going to help the RKBA cause and we have to remain engaged in the political process to manage the fallout but I fail to see how anything good can come of the latest massacre.

They are spinning recent events to blame the cause on gun owners and the nra. It is not my wish for them to be spinning anything in anyones favor. It should be called what it is and act of pure evil and insanity.

Where did I say any good could come from the tragedy?

I agree, we as firearm owners must show that we are active politically, and not only protect our rights, but also to continue the push toward expanding our rights...

I respect the pain from the recent event, but, lets use it as a learning tool, and not something to bring back more ineffective legislation from the past.

I'm still sick over the recent tragedy but I am not ready to give up any of my rights. This discussion needs to be about the ability of law abiding citizens to protect themselves and those they are responsible for and how we treat the mentally ill. If we could eradicate evil I'd consider giving up my sd guns. The recent manifestation of evil will result in the conversation being about us being less able to defend ourselves instead of the proper response of how can we better protect the innocent. We need to stand firm on all of our rights and turn the dialog into why these situations occur and how to give the people the tools needed to end these senseless tragedies.

I don't see why would anyone roll over and surrender their right to defend themselves from someone like Adam Lanza.

Incidentally, Florida has issued closer to two million carry licenses since going "shall-issue" in 1987. The landmark being announced regarding carry licenses in the state is that there will be one million active licenses at one time. The rest are simply licenses that were never renewed (or were not renewed enough times to be still active today.) About 400 have been revoked (that's 400, not 400 thousand.)

I turned 21 that year, and lived here. I remember the mass-media frenzy over "streets awash in the blood of innocents as gunslingers duel it out Old-West style over everything from girls to parking spaces." I did not go right out for the permit, as I was sworn in as a LEO just a few months later, but I never did see where that scenario took place..

The first tragedy since the November election, of the President who has been had been strongly anti-gun and voted for every anti-gun bill ever proposed(even a board member of the Joyce Foundation) his entire political life prior to becoming president, who is now on his last term as President.
The president who now vows to do all in his power towards an anti-gun agenda.
Working in the background was for the first term, now he works openly towards this goal. Some people said it wouldn't happen, some of us wanted to hope that was true. Reality has now hit, and we know the next 4 years is going to be a constant battle we can't give an inch during.

I really do not think this is a coincidence. They will be milking this event and any others over the next 4 years to promote anti-gun legislation.
They were lying in wait to pounce.
This event is going to be drawn out for weeks in the media, burned into the minds of everyone, and milked for all emotional leverage possible.
If it had happened in October it would have been mentioned much less with little push for an agenda. But not now.

Because the media has shown it considers the primary course of action to be anti-gun legislation (though it tries to pretend it is subtle, hinting constantly at at it, and then having people mention it outright here and there to insure that seed is planted), and is promoting that in its messages on this and future stories, you are certainly going to find yourself dealing with the segment of the population that repeats what the tv told them as thier own beliefs.

The pro-gun side must actively stay on the offensive for gaining rights. Even just going on the defensive and ceasing to make gains leads to 'compromise' situations and backsliding.
The population is a lot more available to eachother than in the past due to the internet. In times past the media could tell the population what to think, and the government could act as if it was the will of the people once the message was digested.
The monopoly on speaking for the population has been broken.
Today large segments of the population know they are united in support of firearms, and they only need to be vocal and support those that protect thier rights.
As long as they don't get tired they retain thier rights, and continue to see them expand.
But do know there is those dedicated to removing those rights, and gun owners have to be twice as vocal without big media giants on thier side to have as much influence. So if you get tired you lose your rights.

You hit the nail on the head in a unique way.

From things I've read years ago about schools in Israel, if ours were similar, there might be very few school massacres in the US, and maybe none attempted.

Antis dont care about anything but there own agenda, they do not care about facts, you cannot compromise with people who what every gun banned, they want us totally disarmed, and they are using this tragedy to further there cause, and what makes this different from the other mass-killings is that most of victims were children and that is what the antis will use to persuade pro-gun or on the fence congressman vote in there favor, and believe me, the media is going to twist this every which way but loose to convince the public that guns are bad, and need to be taken off the streets. Tell that to the people who live in England and Australia what good has come out of gun control----more crime! Or the people who live in Detroit where even the cops have said we cannot help you, we are understaffed, enter city at your own risk, stay in your home, lock the door and load your gun. And it is not just Detroit, with other cities around the country going bankrupt and in the red, public services are being severly understaffed for lack of money, so what good is calling 911? But that is what the antis say will protect you from crime, the police, you do not need a gun with the police around-----huh, what police! What it boils down to is the 2nd amendment was not for hunting but for self-protection and tyranny of government, you take the 2nd amendment away all all the other amendments fall by the wayside :(
