After driving all of you crazy with all my questions about reloading for my M1 Carbine, I have one FINAL question...I PROMISE. This Carbine I just bought is a Plainfield Machine rifle that has not only never been fired...it hasn't even chambered a round. There is NO evidence that a round has ever gone up the throat...not a trace of a copper or lead mark. I'd like to know, in your collective experiences, what has been your most accurate loading using IMR4227, and 110 plated RN bullets. I don't REALLY care at all about maximum FPS...I want maximum accuracy, which I guess is what it's all about...for ME at least...;) Thanks, again, guys...

You're going to have to ask it, there's no way of knowing what a particular rifle likes other than trial and error.

I have to look back in my notes when I get home, but lately I have been using Lilgun powder with good results. I ran out of 4227 and had trouble finding it.

RULE 3 - "Penfield Manufacturing" corrected to Penfield Machine...

Still never heard of it. Some Commercial brands were PLAINFIELD.

Regardless, from your previous posts you only wanted info for IMR4227

If it was H110 I could suggest some loads. Still remains that with the plated bullets you do not want to exceed 1900 fps.

So just start with the start load given by Hodgdon of 13.0 grains. The carbines shoot fine at lower charges and do not take a lot to cycle them. You can bump it .5 gr if needed.

345 DeSoto,

With plated bullets, you want to use lead bullet load data. Suggest you use the 115gr lead bullet load data in the Lyman 49th manual of 13.3gr of 4227.

15.0 gr of H110 or W296 behind a 110 FMJ is what you really need, but i realize those powders are very hard to find right now.

a few months ago, hi-tech ammunition had 110 gr FMJs for the carbine for about $.10 each. i wish i'd bought more. they're sold out now.

id probably pass on the 4227 for your carbine. Its a kind of dirty burning powder and it might eventually cause gas system pluggage. 110,296, would work fine. Originaly it was loaded with wc820 which is aa9 so that would surely work great.
