They supposedly had 20% of the nations ammo sales, so what do you think will happen now?

A~ other sellers will fill in the void and NOT raise prices to compete with each other?
B~ other sellers WILL raise the prices knowing they are more likely to get the orders now?

Fact is for many of us the only way to get ammo now is online or at a gun show, excluding local gun stores which unfortunately have always marked up their ammo twice as high as online or sporting good stores.

They aren't stopping ALL ammo, just handgun and "non-sporting" rifle ammo.

B - e.g. .22 prices a while back during the ‘shortage’. Many gun related retailers confuse gouging with “capitalism / good business practice”.

I don’t believe the 20% number either - too low, probably more like 40-50%.

I seriously doubt 40-50%; not with major online retailers and major big box stores such as Cabela's, BASS Pro, Academy, Sportsman Warehouse, etc.

I think there’s enough competition between all the online sellers that none of them will raise prices. Academy and BassPro might raise prices because of Wally’s exit.

It’s definitely bad for all of us though. Communists are thrilled such a huge retailer has taken a knee and criminals will stop illegally shooting people because of Walmart’s lack of 9mm.

I can tell you the percentage of my money that will go to Walmart for anything at all in the future...0%.

They didn’t get much of my Ammo money before but they did get a lot for other things. I have found that I do not miss them, their products or the hassle it was to shop there.

Their ammo selection was pretty poor anyway. At least at the stores I used to go to.

I will support Walmart over Target, K-Mart and similar stores. Not only are they the best source for my shotgun target ammo, they carry more US-made products than their competitors.

I work there, and I even doubt the 20% figure. I did grab the last of the .45 ACP at our store, and a 500 rd. box of Remington Thunderbolts-my son loves them, so they get added to the .223 ammo can and cell phone he's getting.
We still have plenty of rifle ammo not in those two two calibers, and as George P said, good prices on shotgun ammo. I buy all my League round shells there, then reload the hulls for practice rounds.

I'm curious how much of their ammo sales are the calibers that they are no longer carrying. My guess is they sell more shotgun, .22 and traditional hunting rifle calibers than the calibers they are eliminating. So maybe they'll only account for....15% of ammunition sales going forward.

I don't see other brick and mortar retailers raising their prices on ammo. I don't think it's a big market for them. I'm guessing more and more gun "enthusiasts", such as those that frequent this site buy in bulk and purchase online, or if they really need it in a pinch buy ammo at their LGS.

Living in a collar county of Chicago, the Walmart stores that I frequent may very well be a different experience than more rural Walmart stores, but I avoid buying ammo at Walmart because it takes forever for someone with a FOID and keys to the case to show up to sell it to you. The same with hunting and fishing licenses.

Dicks and Wal-Mart, my favorite stores. Forget principles. I'll shake hands with the devil if it means low prices on ammo and the chance to lend fiscal support to a company with socially responsible gun policy at he same time. Win-win.

I really don't see the huge advantage to Walmart. I think the only reason they.sold ammo was it was convenient.

What were their prices before the clearance?

I don't usually buy Russian Ammo so don't know about it.

Local LGS
9mm $7.99 (USA)
.40 S&W $7.99 (USA)
.380 $10.99 (Mexico)
.45 ACP $11.99 (Czech)

I don't remember Walmart being particularly cheap but maybe I'm wrong.

Whoever has the cheap ammo. Really don't care if they do away with 2A or support gun grabs as long as I can get discount ammo. That's what's important, saving money.

You can really save money on ammo when shooting and gun ownership in general is either illegal or too cumbersome for the average citizen.

Hope these remarks are sarcastic. I won't trade my 2a for anything and will defend it with my life.

Seriously? What side are you on? There's nothing socially responsible about their foolish policies. Tell me how bending to the will of those who would destroy our freedom is socially responsible?

I'm with you on this.

In light of Dicks and now Walmarts antics, a local farm and ranch store chain has gone from one small locked case of generic ammo with some basic shooting supplies to a full multi-aisle shooting department with large stocks of longguns and handguns in ALL STORES.

If demand exists, the market will find a way...
+1. Our farm and ranch chain immediately picked up the slack and it came to a head during Black Friday weekend. That left little doubt that the guns and ammo department needs more room and more staff.

I kept buying from Walmart out of convenience but mostly I was afraid of buying online. Now that I’m over that fear online is the only way I buy.

I trust you're being sarcastic with your statement concerning those who would do away with the Second Amendment or be in favor of gun confiscation. If this were to happen then buying cheap ammo would be a moot point at that time!

Our farm and ranch stores (D&B Supply) have just upgraded several stores to a legit gun counter with probably 50-60 long guns and 30-40 handguns along with scopes, and about 3-4 aisles of ammo, reloading and firearm accessories. This all happened I. The last few years and now the new D&B that just got put in started out with a gun counter and they all do very well.

So just as capitalism is supposed to work voids in the consumer markets get filled by willing participants.

I was. Funny though that people will continue to patronize Wal Mart for cheap ammo, even though they are clearly anti-2A. I dont care if they are handing out free boxes of nitro express, no deal. Between me, my family, and gun buddies I have beat Wal-Mart outta thousands in just a few months. Academy and Cabela's get my ammo money. I don't do business with enemies just cause cheap ammo. I was simply following the unprincipled line of selfishness with regards to cheap ammo and doing business with evil corps to it's logical end. To some it won't matter as long as they keep their guns and have cheap ammo. Benedict Arnold would be proud.
