I wasn't sure where to post this. The NRA seems to not be too good answering my emails, so I figured I'd post it where there are likely to be NRA members and ask.

I got an email today with this:

Your validation is required to close an
important gap in your NRA member benefit file.

More than 24,470 NRA Members have already
locked in this guaranteed 24-hour emergency
and medical assistance entitlement. But your
record is currently blank.

Please validate your status before
October 26, 2007.
Dear (.cheese.),

To save time, I pulled your NRA member benefit file and authorized your
provisional registration in a broad package of medical services.

All are VITAL in an emergency -- whether you're on a hunting trip a few
hours from home... traveling on business or with your family... or even
out of the country.

Called Emergency Assistance Plus (EA+), this dependable NRA-negotiated
program helps you handle almost any crisis when you're away from home. It's a critical
safety net that helps pay for emergencies your health insurance generally will NOT cover.

And it's yours on a fully guaranteed basis. That means you cannot be turned
down when you validate your status before 10/26/07.

To help you quickly take care of this time-sensitive matter, just visit the NRA EA+
Online Validation Center. Everything you need to validate your NRA-endorsed
emergency benefits is included on this secure, fully-encrypted website.

But it's important to act on this notice right away. Your provisional Registration is
only valid through 10/26/07. As a result, I strongly urge you to lock in your
guaranteed NRA benefits by going to the Online Validation Center today.

Sincerely,

Wilson H. Phillips Jr.

Is this an advertisement, or have I genuinely left out activating something I should have activated?

I was mainly wondering if this meant I'm not covered by the $1000 travelers insurance for if traveling with a gun that would cover it if it got stolen or lost in transit (ie: in the airport or something). Or is it strictly about this travelers medical insurance thing? It mentions my benefits being "provisional", but only specifies this one issue. Unfortunately, the NRA sends plenty of advertisements too, so I'm unsure whether this is just another one, or something legit.

I don't really need this medical insurance thing as my health insurance covers me anywhere in the country. I do want to make sure I have the NRA membership travelers insurance that protects my gun though.

Thanks guys.

ok. Thanks Jorg.

Yeah, I saw the link takes you to the NRA Endorsed Insurance page. It made me a little nervous as to whether this "gap" applied to the gun/travel insurance too.

I got it too, and I sent a couple of complaint emails this morning.

I get very few mailings from NRA and most I'm OK with but this one I don't like.

It's clearly an advertisement but the wording makes it sound like something is wrong and I think that's deceptive.

I don't really need this medical insurance thing as my health insurance covers me anywhere in the country. I do want to make sure I have the NRA membership travelers insurance that protects my gun though.

I read through the coverage being offered and if you were traveling internationally it might have some value but that's about it.
If I were to go on a Safari in Kenya I might consider it otherwise I don't see the point.

I don't reply to any unsolicited ad, either by return email or link. If I want more information I'll go directly to the NRA home page and check the programs there.
