Now, I am a member of the NRA, and I don't particularly like how they are spending my money (there are other fiascos like this mentioned all the time).

So the question is, what organizations should I go with? I am going to join GOA, no question about it, but this still angers me. I am thinking about not renewing my NRA membership. Your thoughts?

Wes

Stick with NRA, join GOA in addition to NRA. NRA does a lot of hunter and shooter safety programs, and has a lot of clout inthe capitol. The smaller, hard core groups give us the real scoop on the candidates, do research, support lawsuits, and pump out good literature/media content.

Work from within the NRA to give them some backbone. And write, call, meet with your politicians. The NRA is nothing without each of us doing our part.

This thread seems familiar . . .

The NRA doesn't give two hoots about anyone's Second Amendment rights. They care about only about their unfathomable political agenda. Once in a while, its' views might actually coincide with the right to keep and bear arms, but that is purely accidental.

They do talk a good game, though. Especially when they are telling about the latest emergency, with their hand out, naturally.

I don't care how much "good" they may do with their education programs. They've endorsed most major acts of victim disarmament, including the NFA of 1934 and GCA of 1968. If you want a group that A) actually fights for your rights and B) is very effective as well I would vote for http://www.jpfo.org/ Jews For the Preservation of Firearms Ownership. Don't let the name throw you, they're what the NRA should be. For more on why the NRA is FOS, see http://www.armedfemalesofamerica.com/takingaim/betrayal_trust.htm &

I joined the NRA for one reason and one reason only ... the private range I want to join has it as a requirement.

I think you'll find a lot of us who have a similar reason.

Just as a matter of perspective....

I belong to "Keep and Bear Arms". I send them money on a regular basis. However, it's no secret that Mr. Shamaya has hard feelings regarding the NRA. Anything he writes about the NRA is going to be full of controlled anger, at best.
Which is not to say he can't be right in some cases.

I'm a Life NRA member. However, I don't agree with all they do. Once, when I wrote to the board of directors on a specific issue, most reponded civilly except for one jackass (who's name I have suppressed from my memory) who gave me the self-rightous "how dare you?" routine.

I will stay an NRA member, as I believe they are supportive of the Second Amendment on the whole. I will also stay a KBA member and send them money; and GOA and others.

I even talk to my brother in law. He's a nincompoop at times too. But family is family.

Naw, I think I'm through with NRA.

I joined the NRA for one reason and one reason only ... the private range I want to join has it as a requirement.

I think you'll find a lot of us who have a similar reason.

Yup, and I've belonged to NRA many times during lifetime, only really serious about guns in last four years though. I'm going to give my money to GOA this coming year. I don't have to prove to range, upon upcoming renewal, that I'm NRA.

I really wonder about them sometimes.

The NRA has had the power for sometime to win the battle...but they dont want to win. And we suffer.

Fight to win, no?

Whether you agree with them 100% or not,

a lousy $35 a year and putting up with a little extra junk mail buys a pretty decent magazine and a LOT of clout in Washington DC. Keep your membership current, just don't send any extra. Send the extra money to GOA, JPFO, SAS, KABA, etc.

How many times are we going to repeat this thread?

So, maybe I am missing something, but I think that NICS is great. It keeps convicted felons, people with mental defects...people that are subject to a restraining order ect...from breaking the law and purchasing a firearm. I know that there are some raving libertarians or anarchists that would like every person on earth from the worst mass murderer to the preacher down the street to have class three...but seriously, there has to be some common ground. The NICS system needs to be upgraded and for those of us that may not know, it is only as good and accurate as the information in it. Therefore I want it to have the most accurate and up to date information available. Unless you are a convicted felon/wife beater this shouldn't be a concern. I don't want felons or thugs buying guns. Even if it is only a small dent, it helps. It just sounds like the want NICS to deny guns to the people that aren't supposed to have them anyway.

The NRA has the power to Lobby congress. All the rest don't ammount to much more than a talking head bc they simply don't have the clout. Folks don't seem to realize that this is a marathon, not a sprint and the NRA is running with a marathoners mentality. That means that they may not take on every single fight...but they will win the war.

In TX I like being able to walk into any gunshow or gunshop and buy a firearm and walk out with it. I assume when they are calling in my CHL and Drivers license # that is NCIS in action.
What's not to like?

Are the millions that will be turned down during a background check with the upgraded system legit or not? If they aren't, why should I get upset?

The author of the arti does not say they are legit and getting the shaft. If that were the case why didn't he say so.

Just my habit or reading between the lines.

S-

Still, getting on the same stage and yahooing with the likes of Schumer makes me sick.

"This thread seems familiar . . ."

It seems to me that there is a small cadre of pro-KABA/anti-NRA people on this board who continually attack everything that smacks of what they think is wrong and work to turn it into an anti-NRA diatribe.

I personally don;t think that the NRA is perfect but they are better than just about anything out there I can see. AND they touch more facets of the shooting world than all the rest of the pro-gun movement combined.

IMHO someone out there hates the NRA and is willing to use this whole issue for their own purposes.
