i'm looking to get a little more organized as i'm getting a little more forgetful.

I've built myself a matrix where across the top I have my 200 yrd standing, 200 yrd sitting, 300 yrd prone and 600 yrd prone positions.

down the left hand I have the following rows:

come up (obviously this changes with each yard line)
no-wind zero (i consistently need 4 clicks left in sitting, for whatever reason)
sight picture (6 o'clock standing and flat tire elsewhere for me)
sling # (what # my keeper is on, since I change from sitting to prone)
ammo (i shoot Load #40 (69g SMK) at 200/300 and Load #41 (80g SMK) at 600)

I'm just trying to build something I can get in the habit of glancing at during prep so I won't forget stupid stuff.

I'd be interested in knowing what OTHER things HP shooters change between positions.

I'm shooting service rifle only, so I'm not particularly interested in adjustable stock positions or changes to "match sights" where people move them forward or backward on rails, or other things that don't pertain to the AR15, but that doesn't mean others might not be similarly interested. feel free to post.

Get yourself a rifle data book to record all that information. Everyone has changes at different positions based on their particular body style and must compensate for positional changes. Take a look at this article http://www.odcmp.org/0706/default.asp?page=USAMU_DATABOOKS

Everything you mentioned gets recorded, including some things you didn't like the position of the sun overhead during a string. Keep your book up to date and record your thought process in positive situations and you'll have a great guide for match preparation.

Hope this helps.

thanks, bullseye, I actually developed my own databooks about ...wow, i guess it's been 8 years ago now. i keep them for all my rifles and record quite a bit more info than what's normally in them. i've filled up 4 books shooting CMP/NRA HP matches now and have 4 matches in my 5th book.

i'm really looking for what things about your position and equipment change between yard lines

When I was shooting HP, I dropped shooting the 69's and 80's and went 77 Mk's across the entire course. My scores at 600 didn't change and made reloading a whole lot simpler.

I record all sorts of stuff in my databook. Date, light, temp, sling setting, plot, and the zero used plus whatever notes. I've also started recording which mags I used. Before I come off the line, I count my sight back to zero and make sure the data is filled in.

I shoot the M14, so position can cause shifts, and I figure my zero is good to about 3/4 minute on any given day.

On the back cover, I keep distilled zero and sling information--what I think is my best zero and the sling setting for each stage. That's where I go to get my zero at the beginning of the prep period. I review it at the end of the day and update if I think it's necessary--right now, there's probably 10-12 different set's of zero's on that cover and the book is nearly full.

I have two loads and don't switch around very often, so I make just a cursory note on the plot (ie "168 4895" or "125 Varget" for example).

I have a two sided wind chart/rosette (200yds/600yds) that I laminated and clip to the databook. For 300, use the 600yd chart and take a little less than half the value. I use this to make them.
