Just got a packet in the mail from the NRA which offers to upgrade my membership to Endowment Member for a one time deal of $175.

Anyone else get this mailing? Anyone taking the offer? Is there any benifits to being an Endowment member?

No benefits. It just a "fire sale" to raise money. They do this every year or so. Have you ever gotten a letter from NRA that wasn't a fund raiser?

I heard they have this points program that somehow allows you to get a life membership for 300$ or so. You have to do stuff like use their credit card.

'Course, when I'm rich, I'll give them a million or two, in exchange for an upgrade to "Grand Supreme Exalted Life Member and Much Nicer than Bill Ruger, Too."

I got a similar mailing - upgrade from Endowment to Benefactor for $250. I will probably do it since I haven't given them any money lately (I do so when I can). This is an election year and I'm also getting a lot of calls/letters from the GOP asking for money - it's kinda fun to tell them that all my contributions are going to the NRA this year.:D

Kinda nice to be on their "no-mail" list. Less to throw out that way. :)

When I joined this year (3-4 months ago), I asked to be put on the no mail list. Sure enough, no fund raising junk has come my way. Just my magazine and I get legislative alerts in my email.

Once my EPL is paid off, it would be nice to upgrade to those higher levels of membership at those fire sale prices.

I've upgraded a few times over the course of the past several years, and yes, from time to time send in some money for the legislative action fund. The NRA may not be perfect, and I'm sure there's a butt-load of overhead jobs pulling in big salaries there in Fairfax, but think the NRA has the strongest clout in fighting national gun control. Giving a one time deal on a life memebership is a good way to increase the ranks and make it more affordable to everyone, but since I hopefully have a few more years before I become worm food, think I need to support the fight on a continuing basis. Not just take advantage of the one shot deal and a magazine for life.
Besides, if Rosie O'Donnell hates it, that makes it all worth while in my book.:D

I got the letter asking me to pay off the balance of my life membership by September.....since I'm still early in the process it would have been like $675.00. Can't swing that, but I will send them something for the legal fund.....I usually do that a few times a year anyway.

"Grand Supreme Exalted Life Member and Much Nicer than Bill Ruger, Too."
Oh come on now, there's a NRA/Ruger commerative. Bill must be a supporter of RKBA?!?

RE: Jacket incentive.....I've always had mixed feelings about these types of things.....if the money is what's important to the success of the organization, then just ask for the money and forget the premiums. Somebody still has to pay for the jacket. I'll send a donation regardless of the freebie...

OTOH.....the premiums are necessary in order to entice some people to donate.....
