Time to renew my membership which I will because they are the only true game in town but I just read an article in the latest issue of Guns& Ammo by Keith Wood where he claims the NRA paid an attorney $97,787 per day 7 days a week for all of 2018. That totals 24 million dollars of our hard earned money. All I'm going to ask is: what on Earth did this fellow do to receive that kind of a paycheck and are they still paying him?

Well, they are being attacked on all sides, the State of New York, The Media, Democrats and even lots of '2A advocates'. 'tis the season to attack the NRA.

Just watch what happens to this thread

btw I just donated, IMHO everyone that cares about their RKBA should as well

I don't know what the going attorney rate is, but when was the last time you heard of someone suing the NRA? Maybe their legal advice is what is keeping them out of the defendant's box. At the same time, I am in the same position as the OP, struggling with how/when/if to renew.

“I will use the constitutional power as an attorney general to regulate charities, that includes the NRA, to investigate their legitimacy,” she said at a July 12 rally.

I can't disagree with you and yeah I'll be making a contribution soon. The article isn't clear on who approved the contract.
Oliver North penned a latter of concern but then described it as a " fiscal emergency", whatever that means.
Thanks for posting that article SharpDog it has provided some explanation but still doesn't provide a warm and fuzzy send them some money feeling.

OP this subject is likely going to be very contentious here. I would suggest doing some research and Googling about the NRA troubles separate from this forum. Several leaked documents have revealed some questionable use of member donated funds and poor management decisions, in addition to the particular incident that you reference. The moderators here are fairly restrictive of the forum members discussing the NRA and their alleged miss-use of member funds given how contentious this issue has become so I would encourage you to do some independent research into both side of this very contentious issue.

PS: If it matters I am a life member but have decided to not contribute any more funds to the NRA while the existing leadership is in power.

Will you contribute to other 2A organizations ? WIll you vote in 2020 ?

As we have discussed before in these threads, my money continue to flow to other pro-2A groups and of particular interest to me the intersection of 1A and 2A issues.

I have never missed a presidential election (and very few off year elections) since I became eligible. That said I have not voted for an R or D for president since the 2000 election. I firmly believe the two party system is a cancer destroying this country.

As mentioned earlier I think the NRA is still the best game in town for our 2nd amendment rights so I will continue to make contributions.
As far as discussing this topic here I can't think of a better place and in my opinion shutting down the topic would be a disservice to all members.

What is destroying this country are lack of term limits and people voting for same individuals over and over again. The country is run by corporations and special interest groups who do business through lobbyists.
Supporting NRA is crucial to preservation of gun rights in USA.

Term limits can create situations where the best person for the position is not allowed to run, what we need is the voting public to be more informed and vote for the betterment of the country and not just to get more for themselves.

Last time I saw an attorney, it was $300/hr. He only had a paralegal and an office assistant and this was only a consulting visit regarding some property.

I reckon keeping these dogs at bay is considerably more expensive.

I've been a longtime member of the NRA and despite the fact that I don't always agree with everything they do, but dues are cheap and rights are dear. I figure if they go away, it wont be long before the other organizations do to.
