NRA offers free memberships

The National Rifle Association is offering free one-year memberships to all troops on active duty as a token of appreciation for their service.

The promotion, which began earlier this month, is open to full-time service members and reservists called up to active duty. A membership usually costs $35. Troops who sign up for the membership will be asked for their name, address, rank and e-mail address, but not Social Security or credit card information.

They will have to provide additional personal information if they decide to renew their membership next year. The membership also comes with a free subscription to one of the organization’s three magazines: American Hunter, American Rifleman, or America's First Freedom.

To sign up for the free membership, visit http://www.nra.org/supportourtroops

These men and women are willing to put their lives on the line for the defence of this country and it's constitution above and beyond anything the NRA has ever done and all they give them is a piddly $35 one year membership? Shows how much the NRA values our troops.

Reason 1,756 not to join the NRA...

What more do you want the NRA to do for the troops? I realize the free membership isnt much, but within the scope of the NRA's purpose its about as much as they can do that is financially feaseable.

Go on, list all of them, if you can. :neener:

I do not agree with all of the NRA's decisions, but they use a lot of the cash they have to fight antis in a way they listen, with court costs in defending our rights. They have a lot of political influance and are recognizable as an old American institution. No other organization specific to RKBA has the leverage or political influance they do to get more done with the same amount of $. They have all the contacts, are familiar with most of the procedures and they more effectively stall the antis than anyone else.

There is better meaning groups, or ones more consistent with my political beliefs in regard to RKBA but they have a much smaller influance.

The only thing that really is upsetting in our legal system is people feeling that when two opposing sides have a disagreement that somehow the right thing to do is reach a compromise that takes away a lil piece of our rights to appease the antis. Under this philosophy if the issue appears in court often enough the right will no longer exist in any meaningful way. This would be akin to someone claiming some of your property and a judge compromising and giving you most of what was already yours, and giving them less than they stole from you. Either way your still losing something you already had, and they are gaining something and never risked losing anything.

So XDKingslayer what the hell have YOU done for our troops? :fire:

Seriously folks, the NRA bashing in this forum has GOT to stop. Otherwise all the antis have to do is sit back and we'll destroy the RKBA movement on our own.

Well said zundfolge.

xdkingsLayer? I can find many organisations sending stuff to our troops, and begging for your money. You want the list? Better yet, call your closest military base, and tell them you have bought a bunch of goodies for our troops, and they will come and pick it up.

Sooo, lemme get this right. Offering hundreds of thousands of people FREE $35 memberships that help pay for the magazine to go with it and the postage to send it is trivial? :scrutiny:

Actively recruiting thousands of folks that may not be as informed as we are of the insidious effort to take away our constitutional right to RKBA so that we can protect our constitutional rights is a bad thing?

I've missed something then, cause I don't see a down side for the folks in uniform or for us.

If you hate the NRA at least have the intelectual honesty to not grasp desperately at every mention of their name as an excuse to turn an all positive into some bitter trumped up negative.

I'd like to see most all these major companies step up to the plate like the NRA. Just think how they could help out the familes who have someone deployed to the big sandbox. Baby formula for the infants, free bread/milk once in a while from the grocery store etc etc

Don't understand the logic. A group decides to donate a membership to the troops, and that's a reason to lambaste 'em? If your gun store gives away Lorcins, good for them. No reason to whine that they don't give Dan Wessons.

Someone posted this a couple of weeks ago. I sent it out to not only my Air Force shooting buddies but to all 44 of my subordinates. Of the 44, 26 joined the same week.

GI's are top notch.

I'm a new guy and am glad to see support for the troops, and for NRA. I upgraded to NRA Lifer in ought 6, also in ought 6 NRA asked me to sponsor a 6 month membership for any GI, which I gladly did. I get the 'America's First Freedom' magazine, and enjoy it each month. Miss Liberty still 'Lifts Her Lamp by The Golden Door,' even though I've not been ever vigilant of our Liberty. These GIs are on the line for us, and would have it so. I'm sure fortunate to have been born in the contiguous 48.

I've done a hell of a lot more than a piddly $35 dollar membership aimed at bolstering membership.

No, the NRA bashing should NOT stop. As a matter of fact, it shouldn't stop until the NRA stops trying to find middle ground with the antis and starts recognizing that one simple line in the 2A they always forget.

Shall not be infringed.

Once they take a shall not be infringed stance on the 2A they are NOT 2A supporters and are just as much a threat as the antis themselves.

If they were only giving away one single membership you may have a point, but if you add all these $35 memeberships up (along with the cost of producing and mailing the nifty NRA magazine of your choice) its likely more than you'll ever do.

No, the NRA bashing should NOT stop.
United we stand, divided we fall ... I guess XDKingslayer prefers "fall".

But hey, at least you can still stand up, beat your chest and proclaim your ideological purity.

If you want to have a reasoned and polite debate on the failings of the NRA, there's a place for you to do so here but simple, mindless, knee-jerk bashing is not in line with the code of conduct you agreed to when you signed up here.
