NRA offering FREE memberships to the troops

OK, let's cool this one down.

I realize I'm probably more at fault than anybody for turning this into a flamefest, and I apologize for that, but let's let XDKingslayer alone and get back on topic.

I think its a great way for the NRA to both support the troops AND bolster membership. Which are both good things.

Every now and then my NRA does something else to make me proud to be a Life Member. They ain't perfect. Which of us is? "Let he who is without guilt, cast the first stone."

My father, who died in 1999 at the age of 93, a decorated WW II combat veteran, a POW, and my hero believed and was not ashamed to tell anyone that the NRA was responsible for the edge that many GI's had in combat. He thanked the NRA for teaching a myriad of American boys the manual of arms and how to shoot and be an upright person. He told me that many Germans told him when he was a POW that they feared the American GI because they knew how to shoot.

If anyone is going to knock the NRA, I'd suggest you take your bitching somewhere else. You insult my father with your remarks and I resent that.

Kick ass.....I've been feeling guilty about not renewing my membership a few years ago since I've been having money trouble. Just signed up and now I don't have to feel bad for still having the NRA sticker on my car. ;)

RKBA Fight Takes Money

NRA has to have effective recruitment if it is to maintain cash flow to carry on any kind of legal fight.

They're investing what I imagine will be millions of dollars today for increased membership which will fund actions tomorrow.

Bright move.

Applause.

Am I the only one here who got a phone solicitation from the NRA last month or so asking for donations to give NRA memberships/subscriptions to the troops??? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? One month we're begging our membership for money so we can add more members, and the next month we're just giving away those same memberships for free? And maybe this is a "bad" thing to say, but I'm pretty sure most members of the Armed Forces make a heck of a lot more than I do, which makes a donation kinda odd.

This whole thing strikes me as just a relatively inexpensive tactic to boost the NRA's member count. The cost of a year's subscription free has got to be pretty low ($5? $10?), and they'll undoubtedly make most of it up when soldiers renew their membership or donate in response to mass mailings. Meanwhile their member base expands. Call me cynical, but I don't see how this is anywhere near a great sacrifice for the NRA. I'm a member, and I appreciate what they do, but this strikes me as more selfish than charity in the long run (although it's not bad, just somewhat deceptive).

all me cynical, but I don't see how this is anywhere near a great sacrifice for the NRA.
Why does this have to be a "great sacrifice" in order for it to be a good thing?

:scrutiny:

I dunno ... whenever I hear people talk about how others should be sacrificing, I think looterspeak.

Ya know, one thing that GIs in the field LOVE to get is magazines from home ... if nothing else an NRA membership is a simple magazine subscription. I imagine every GI that gets that copy of American Rifleman with his name on it will be grateful.

I think it is a great move politically as well as a good way to get pro-gun members who are likely to remain members after the year expires.

Nonetheless I am going to go sign up right now.

Thanks.

Good on them! I need to make sure my buddies get the word.

For those who see everything the NRA does as not up to their pristine standards then please form your own perfect organization to show them how to do it correctly.

I'm still wondering what the other 1000+ reasons are...................

No offense. but I make roughly $12,995 a year (E-3). $35 less I have to spend adds up.

No, the NRA bashing should NOT stop. As a matter of fact, it shouldn't stop until the NRA stops trying to find middle ground with the antis and starts recognizing that one simple line in the 2A they always forget.

Ahhh-now we get to the crux of it. XD, politics is a dirty disgusting business. It's also subtle and slow. An activist can go in with a sledgehammer and attempt to wreck the foundations, and you might see some holes in the walls in no time. But fast in, fast out. For one vivid example, when was the last time you saw one of the elected Democrats cozying up to Cindy Sheehan? {*hawchk ptoo!*} They all love what she did, but she is POISON to them now. An extremist.

There isn't a single one of us here who isn't aware of "...shall not be infringed." Gun Control didn't happen overnight. Rolling it back won't either. And the NRA is always there. Do you really think the NRA is seeking the middle ground? There is no middle ground for the Banners, but they understand the creeping effectiveness of incremental action. That works in both directions, ok?

By all means, support the GOA, JPFO, CCRKBA, and any other you can find. G-d bless them! But the NRA is the 800 lb Gorilla in the room. The rest are angry hummingbirds. Nancy Pelosi may frantically swat at those birds, but the big ape won't be budged.

But if you decide that dramatic lifetaking action IS required, could you not use a firearm?

You know, I don't see at ALL how it's a bad thing. Increasing memebership in the NRA is a good thing, the GI's need something to read, good thing, there are a LOT of NRA memebers in uniform out there doing thier part for democracy.

I might be an NRA memeber, but those men and women in uniform are doing the really hard work.
