Feds expand gun sales reporting requirements in four border states

By Mike M. Ahlers, CNN

July 11, 2011 9:40 p.m. EDT

Washington (CNN) -- The federal government said Monday it is proceeding with a plan to require gun dealers in four Southwest border states -- California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas -- to report the sales of high-power rifles under certain conditions in an effort to stem the flow of guns to Mexican drug cartels.

Hey, didn't you hear about all those legally* purchased guns getting into Mexico!? We got to stop it! Think of the children!!

*implies that the original purchaser actually obeyed current laws OR found a loophole in the law. If they had done something illegal, they would have been stopped, right?

It's called.............

The federal govt planned to use the statistics (US Guns in Mexico) from Fast & Furious Scheme to try and gin up support for a new AWB. Even though they've been caught, they are doing it anyway.

Exactly. Not only that, but in a few months the ATF/DoJ will claim that the straw purchasers have simply moved to non-reporting states, and as a result they will need to expand the reporting requirement nationwide. :fire:

Oh yes it will. This will be stopped here and needs to be stopped...and rolled back. Good for the NRA, leading for once instead of following in the SAF's wake.

I really hope that people become more aware of "Fast and Furious" and "Gunrunner." I've brought it up in conversation and people have no idea what it is. Some actually suggest I'm making it up.

For all of those who seem to constantly blast the NRA, how about joining NOW?
Power in numbers (and $) folks........

Have any of you read the comments in response to this article? More laws, more laws, laws are great, the stop all crime!:fire::banghead: These people have absolutely no common sense.

Good on the NRA! Sue their a**.:D

13 Apr 2011 letter to USAG Holder from Sen. Grassley included Apr 2010 e-mails between "Cooperating FFL" gun dealer and Operation Fast & Furious official David J. Voth.

The FFL thought he was cooperating with "Project Gunrunner" (interdicting the guns/illegal buyers before the guns crossed the border) when in fact the ATF had him involved in "Operation Fast & Furious" and the ATF was letting the guns "walk" into Mexico to show up in crime stats and traces.

Guys! This is a good thing! I don't want full auto AKs being bought for $700 and then transported to Mexico where the guns then kill children and nuns!

Looks like they are attempting to divert attention away from Operation Fast & Furious.

I think that's the intent; I also think it's going to be a dismal—and well deserved—failure. Fast & Furious was simply too stupid an idea to succeed. DOJ and BATFE reaction to is has been too stupid to succeed.

We're looking at yet another abysmal government failure.
