Just got news from the NYSRPA, the Ulster Co. Sherrif's office has been granted permission to process pistol amendments (adding a handgun to your permit).

Hopefully this means that in the very near future it will go back to the way things were when you could walk in and back out with your newly purchased handgun added to your permit, instead of this 4-6 week nonsense.

This really only applies to folks in Ulster County NY, but it's at least a small step back in the right direction.

great news. although i cant understand why a NY State permit isn't valid in New York City, but a NYC pistol permit is valid anywhere in NY State?

Because the rest of what would be a Great State, is held Hostage by Gomorrah on the HUDSON.

There it is. NYC really needs to be its own state or something. If it did, NY would'nt be a swing state, it would be solidly Republican and very pro gun.

A little background info on this story. . .

If I remember correctly, perhaps a year ago, Ulster county got a new county Judge and she was very anti-gun. Ulster went from a shall-issue county to a may-issue + restrictions. To add insult to injury, the judge took it upon herself to inform the sheriff's office that all amendments would be going through her from now on. This meant that people were buying a gun, leaving it at the store and taking their receipt to get their permit amended. The judge insisted on a face-to-face meeting with the person who wanted the amendment, which would be scheduled 4-6 weeks in the future, and would consist of questions such as "Why do you need another pistol?"

Edit to add:
Many counties in NY do the back-and-forth thing where you purchase the gun, take the receipt to the county office, get your permit amended, then go back to the FFL and pick up your piece.
I think this has something to do with the fact that serial numbers need to be written on your permit.
In my county, the dealer will write the S/N for you on your permit at the time of purchase, so you are good to go walking out the door. The clerk wants you to inform them of the change within 10 days.
This may or may not be due to the fact that we are one of the few counties that still have the paper permits. Mug shot is attached with scotch tape and everything. :)

The things you have to go thru?
Every time I see a NY permit thread, or a NJ thread or a Indiana permit thread or a Illinois FOID thread - I think that our sever restrictions in the PRK aren't as bad as those.

Jugdes like the above mentions are why all New Yorkers need to get behind the bill mentioned in this thread

Linky

In Rensselaer county,if the pistol clerk is working that day,I can get one on my permit that day,and pick the gun up.In near by couties though,it varies widely...some are like mine some you have wait weeks and actually go before a judge for every amendment......the whole NYC issue w/ the "special permission" thing is what keeps me from spending one dime there.Elitist a-holes.
