Hello everybody! OK guys I need your help and opinion! I moved in USA 2 years ago, in my country I was in sport shooting for many years, primarily I used match air rifle, but after car crash I wasn't able to do it. Right now I am almost fully recovered and I would like to start shooting again. So here is the thing I live in NYC and I know about strict firearms laws around here. So could you tell me is it really that hard to get the rifle permit. And what could you tell me about Savage Mark 2 BTVS 22LR rifle and is it possible to mount sport diopter sights on this rifle?
Thank you very much!!!
P.S. Maybe you could suggest me another good 22LR rifle for target shooting my price range is $800.

Welcome to The High Road, and good luck in New York. I'm not familiar with their gun laws but I would have to imagine a 22lr would be justifiable, I'd also have to imagine it would be ok considering you have a magazine capacity of 10 or less. Dont take this as doctrine, someone else will come along and know more.

Buying and owning firearms in NYC is a real pain in the arse, google what the laws are. I believe the NYPD has a section on how to register a rifle or shotgun and the features that are and are not allowed. Glad I moved back upstate. I wish I had never gone back in the first place had to sell some nice rifles. Did it for my ex wife's career, what a dumbass I am.

Anywho if you stick with sporting firearms and stay away from semi autos you should be fine. I do believe you have to pay a yearly fee and you need to take the firearm to the police to get inspected. Goodluck.
