I have just purchased a Springfield XDM 9mm. I am a beginning USPSA shooter. I am loading a 124 grain RN Laser Cast bullet for competition and using 4.1 grains of Unique. At 1.130 OAL that is recommended in the Laser Cast reloading manual the loaded round is too long to chamber.
Can anyone help me determine what the OAL would be using these components, or should I just keep seating the bullet deeper. I am concerned about pressure issues.:banghead:

The answer is actually quite simple, in that, seat them to the depth that fits your firearm. As with any reloading endeavor, always begin by using a published start charge and work up from there. And considering you are having to decrease your oal, this becomes even more so important, so as to avoid experiencing any pressure spikes. This is standard operating procedure when reloading any cartridge, and with high pressure cartridges such as 9mm, this approach is even more so necessary.

I would load a few with a start charge, see how those cycle, then increase in small increments until you've found the charge that cycles and feeds reliably.

Your only about .1gr above minimum for what your shooting, I wouldn't worry about bringing it down all the way to 1.100 If you wanted to.

I seat some bullets deeper than that to get them to chamber. :) Just find out what the COAL is when they JUST touch the rifling, then back off 5 thou from there. All good.

Plunk test doesn't help if you're having feeding issues. I've had rounds pass the plunk test just fine but were too long to feed reliably.

With my xDM 9, (and even more so with a CZ), I've loaded 124 gr. RNs as short as 1.09" to get them to chamber without driving hard into the leade. No worries.
