The following is an exerpt from an article on Barack Obama from wikipedia.

"Gun control
As a state legislator in Illinois, Obama supported banning the sale or transfer of all forms of semi-automatic firearms, increasing state restrictions on the purchase and possession of firearms and requiring manufacturers to provide child-safety locks with firearms.[41] He sponsored a bill in 2000 limiting handgun purchases to one per month. He also voted against a 2004 measure allowing a self-defense exception for people charged with violating local weapons bans by using a gun in their home.[42]

Obama was also a board member[43] of the Joyce Foundation which funds and maintains several gun control organizations in the United States.

During his campaign for US Senate in 2004, Obama was rated F by both the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America.[44] He supported several gun control measures, including restricting the purchase of firearms at gun shows and the reauthorization of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban.[45]

While in the US Senate, Obama has voted against legislation protecting firearm manufacturers from liability"

I am 100% opposed to Barack Obama, but it is suprising that any one would openly support banning semiautos. I don't think ive ever heard a presidential canidate openly support a ban on ALL SEMI AUTOS. Also why do so many people want to vote for a man with such horrible positions on guns and other issues. I don't think I know anybody who supports banning semi autos, but the same people say they would vote for Obama, it does'nt make any sense.

Rather than rely on Wiki articles for much of anything.....I would suggest this website for information: http://votesmart.org/index.htm. It's actually really good and you can see all their voting records. Why do people say they'll vote for obama? Probably because they don't even know what he stands for....

Agreed. In my experiences, dealing with the typical ignorant masses, any semi auto is the same as a 'machine gun'.

Personally I believe he would make a great Vice President candidate for Hillary. She will most likely win the Democrat nomination next year, even with her recent missteps with the base of her party. Their is no one in either party that can match her funding and she has Bill. If the election was held tomorrow Hillary would beat the top three Republican candidates with ease. With the current attitude in this nation I would not be surprised to see her, as our next commander in Chief.

Obama has had no fucntional relationship with freedom in his whole life, he doesn't even know what it is. The poor man. Not much in the line of personal freedom can come from him. It is like hiring a plumber to make bricks. You can't hire a socialist to make freedom.

There is exactly 0% chance of Barack Hussein Obama becoming President of the United States. Regardless of what anyone thinks the reason for this is, it remains an undisputed fact.

If I was a whitehouse intern, I'd be afraid... very afraid... :what:

MMike87, I hope you understand if I don't put money on that. I feel he has a chance of being nominated (between slim and nil), but you never can tell what will happen next.

Cliff47 - a lot of people vote a name.

Hillary CLINTON. Rudy GIULIANI, and so on. Names they recognize. No one will admit it - but the middle name "Hussein" would cost anyone the election in this country. And if he get nominated, believe me his opponents will plaster that middle name all over the place. And that just cost him all the red states. Add in the "rumors" of supposed ties to Islam in his past, and he's done.

Bigotry? Ignorence? Stupidity? Whatever. Fact is I hope he DOES get the nomination - that ensures the Dems lose the election.

We may or may not like that this is how it is - but 80% of people are too stupid to vote intelligently as it is. Fortunately, in this case it works to our favor - but some day it may not.

Um, not really surprised by this. And, uh, no. He means ALL semi-autos. But then again, he is an idiot.

By the way, I hope the name "Hussein" could keep him out. While I think America is ready for a black President, I don't think we are ready for ANYONE named Hussein.

If he hates guns so much, why doesn't he just move to England?

Because some people like to spread the misery around and mess it up for everyone else.

They like to "shape" our society and leave their leftist markings wherever they ca...

Or maybe they don't like what he stands for and disagree with him politically. Naaa, couldn't be that.

Now we hate everyone named Hussein? Seriously?
Does that mean nobody whose Korean parents named him Kim can be President, because he must be in league with Kim Jong Il?
And no Italian kid from the Bronx named "Benito," of course, and it goes without saying that anyone named "Josef" or "Oleg" is out, the commie so-and-so's.

Do you have any idea how many people in the world have the name "Hussein" or "Hossein" in their names? It's like saying you can't be President if you're named Jose.

Acknowledging that such a name might hurt a candidate might be reasonable (though I think many would ask when this nosedive in the polls is supposed to take place) but cheerleading it betrays a lack of thought.

Think twice, post once.

Come on, Don. I'm not saying that this man's name is any reason to deny him the presidency. But, alot of people don't analyze these things like I do.

Most folks see one issue, or idea held by a person, or something like a person's name, and that's that. They don't analyze the issues further.

Myself, I do. I don't want Obama because his politics are more suited for the E.U. than they are for America. I don't like Obama because of his connections to the Daley Regime. I don't think Obama is a good candidate because of his refusal to stop illegal immigration (in fact, encourages it), his hatred of gun rights, and gun owners, his advocacy of federal level social programs that the states, if anyone should do, his hypocrisy concerning trade policy (basically, complaining about outsourcing and lower wages, and then not talking about getting rid of Most Favored Nation status for China, and chucking NAFTA), and the fact he'd love to chuck our national sovreingnty to NAU/SPP traitors.

Most people don't get that deep into the issues. So, we should use that to our advantage.

My mistake.

I don't think we are ready for ANYONE named Hussein.

Why not? Hussein is merely a name and I like to imagine that Americans are intelligent enough to realize that.

Personally I will never vote for him due to his anti-gun voting history, as well as his close connections with Mayor Daley.

Does he mean all semi-autos? He can't be serious. That would make him one of the most anti-gun politicians ever.

It's been my experience that ignorant people fear the term "semi-auto" more than the term "auto."

I think it's the somewhat cool, somewhat technical sounding "semi" that makes them cringe. Journalists help propogate the myth; even while trying to write a scary article about evil guns, they like to call them "semi-automatic" because it sounds more serious that just "automatic."

There'd be much better understanding if they were called "somewhat-autos" or "partial-autos".

I like "self-loader." Or "goddammitIgottacleanitAGAIN!"

Which reminds me, there was a lone strip club where I grew up, called Papa Joe's Semi-Nude. It had a big sign, and we often passed it on the way to school.

I can't see a thing that starts with Semi- without that memory popping into my head. As a little boy, it sure sounded intriguing to me!:D

cbsbyte, since youre one of the socialists of THR (or are you the anarchist guy?), I assume youll vote for him?

Sure about that? Diane Not-so-Finestein? Chief Justice Burger? I doubt he is serious, that would mean disarming his body guards. We couldnt have that.
