While sorting out range brass from my last purchase, I discovered a couple of cases I never saw or heard of before.

The headstamp is, "IVI .38 FX"

I only found one place on the web that lists anything and it has a picture of the headstamp, down under IVI which is I guess Canadian...

http://www.municion.org/38sp/38Sp1.htm

The case is the same diameter as a 38 Special, but it is as much shorter than .38 Special as a 38 Special is shorter than a .357 Magnum.

I only have two of them. Obviously no great use for them to me, except as short .38 specials but why bother. Probably just put them with the cartridge display.

Anybody heard of these?

Probably from a Simunitions training round. FX = (special) effects.
Simunitions is headquartered in Canada so IVI brass makes sense.

The cases are shorter than standard with a plastic collar holding a small paintball.
The gun is modified to take nothing else for safety in man-on-man shooting.
For a revolver all that is required is a set of sleeves to go in the cylinder so full length live rounds will not chamber.

IVI FX is a Simunition headstamp for their force on force training ammo. Used some of the 9mm Simunition recently for an active school shooter training. I got to be the bad guy :D. Not reloadable to my knowledge.

Some guys have all the luck finding the oddball stuff!! The closest thing I ever found was a recently fired 50BMG at the local 100 YD range. A little overkill for that distance IMHO.
