I recently bought a G23 for my CCW. I was looking for a 19 but this one had night sights for the same price. It is a used 1st or 2nd gen gun, (what is the difference?), no light rail or finger grooves. My question is..If for some reason the frame were to break or crack and I sent it back to Glock, would they replace it with a new 3rd gen frame or put an original one on. It doesnt matter either way to me as I dont care for weapon lights on my CCW.

If Glock were to repair the gun they would use the most current and up to date configuration available.
You would get a new design receiver and internals and they would upgrade/replace the extractor with the latest angle relief.

When I saw the 3rd gen frame I fell in love with it. I wanted ALL of my Glocks to have it!

So I called Glock. They said that if I mailed them the frame and $150, I would get a 3rd gen frame. Of course it would have a different serial number.

:what:

When talking about Glock "generations" there are only two models that have a "first gen" version. G17, which there are a large number of, and G19 which there were only about twenty or so "prototypes ever made. All other Glocks are second or third gen. Second gen added the "checkering" to the front and backstraps, third gen added fingergrooves and light rails. There are also a few models that have fingergrooves but no light rail sometimes referred to as generation 2.5.

glocker1911 - Not that I doubt you since I know next to nothing about Glocks other than a rough idea of caliber/size/model information, but how do you know that about Glocks?
I just bought an earlier G-22 from CDNN and I am worried that it may be a Gen I frame, which as I understand it, is prone to breaking.
I would obviously prefer to NOT have that going on with my gun. Since I haven't even seen it yet, I would also prefer to not have to put money into it for an upgrade right away. That would irritate me greatly.
So your info about the genreation I frame being restricted to the G-17 has my attention.
Thank you.

goon, glocker1911 is correct. By the time Glock started to produce their first .40S&W models (the G22 and the G23) they were already using 2nd Gen frames. I have a 2nd Gen G17 and really like it. All my other Glocks are 3rd Gen, but I have heard nothing but good things from people who have 2nd Gen G22s and G23s (seem to be just as tough as 3rd Gen ones). The book I always recommend to Glock beginners and to folks who have been around Glocks for years even, for that matter, is "The Complete Glock Reference Guide" by PTOOMA Productions. This book tells you everything you ever wanted to know about Glocks. It is a great book, but it usually runs about $30 though. Here's a link to it at Lone Wolf Dist. website:

C-grunt, like mentioned, Glock would replace your frame with a new production 3rd Gen frame (new internal frame parts) with a new serial number (there would be no charge to you (unless shooting reloaded ammo was found to be the blame (you had a double-charge (KB) or case rupture type problem while firing reloaded ammo that cracked the frame)). Glock takes pretty good care of their customers usually from what I have heard and have experenced personally.
