Recap on things I have learned.

Be careful what is purchased online, even if the police arent keeping track of things it is very possible that there are people watching the sites and being "good citizens"

I am not worried that my rights were violated, mostly because I am relieved it was nothing serious. In fact I am kind of glad they check on things like this. I know a lot of people here will disagree with that however.

I need to be much more careful in asking for names and writing them down, it would of made tracing the whole event a lot easier when I called to verify.

The local police let me down in showing up and keeping an eye on things.

The state police did a great job and even called me around 11am to see if anyone showed up, it was a very nice SGT.

I should of had a lawyer present.

I asked for feedback on the incident and I got it. Granted a lot of it was more paranoid (sorry) then I typically am, but I rather get all the feedback I can then make my own choices. Yes the members here as someone else said got me a lot more worried then I would of been without it.

I am still not sure exactly what purchases they were concerned with or if that was the entire reason for the visit. They never did clear up exactly what task force they were working with but I assume its some sort of homeland security deal.

They did not really seemed concerned with my firearm possession and the state cop merely noted that I had some long guns and asked if I keep them in my house (which I do), they did not seem to care about my handguns at all.

I was as vague as I could be with my answer which I think worked out pretty well I would of preferred to have a lawyer there but I also think that would raise some eyebrows from the LEO. I really had nothing to hide.

Things would of been much much easier on me if the officer who originally called me could of just told me what it was in regards to. I really dont think it would of changed much. I guess I could of prepared some answers but it wasnt like they had a warrant or even asked to see anything inside my house.

The two gentlemen were very nice and respectful, but I did not expect much else from LEO, I have heard some bad stories but I have never run into a down right nasty cop or anything like that.

I do appreciate all the advice on not being home and things of that nature but I wasnt at that point of concerned. I know it wouldnt of been a bad idea to play it as safe as possible but I also wanted to keep my head about things. Plus if i was going to get arrested I dont see much of a point in dragging it out.

They were men of their words and showed up a few minutes past 10am. The first time they drove by my house (I dont have a number on it) and circled back around, I live on a dead ended road. They did sit in the car for about 2 minutes before getting out. The FBI agent was driving.

They came and knocked on the door and very loudly at that, even with a working and easily seen doorbell button.

When I asked for ID from the man at my door (State trooper) the FBI agent a few feet back and to his right also took out his ID card without me asking him to, I found that to be very respectful.

I told them I wanted to talk about it on my patio on the otherside of my house and there was some shade there, it was a hot day for new england. They didnt seem to object to this idea at all. He didnt attempt to step into my house when I opened the door. They didnt ask to come inside at all.

When they asked me to produce some credentials for my pistol permit and BEA (in my state you need a pistol permit to purchase/own a handgun) I told him I was carrying a firearm on my wallet side and I was going to take out my wallet. He didnt seem to be on edge or concerned about it at all. I presented him with my BEA and Pistol card and asked if he wanted to see my military ID as well. He said sure. He took them and wrote down the numbers or some other info (I couldnt see what he was writing)

The state trooper had a cheap little notebook, not a full sized one but one of those half paper sized ones with a cardboard cover. He took a lot of notes during our conversation. Neither officer had any kind of file or paperwork on them besides the one notebook. It doesnt appear like he had much if any information on me written down in the book.

The state trooper started the conversation and then kind of lead me. He asked mostly followup questions. It kind of seemed like he was trying to trick me into saying something but also seemed very on my side at the same time. They apologized a few times for taking time out of my day and kept assuring me it was routine.

When they left I walked them off my property and on the way out the FBI agent asked me how bail enforcement worked, I kept it very vague and replied to his questions mostly with "yea kinda like that" or "something along those lines". I was surprised at his lack of knowledge on the bail bond industry. The state trooper didnt seem to be much interested in it at this point.

They seemed concerned that even if I wasnt part of a anti-american group I may know of some. I told them in Connecticut I hadnt even heard of one existing and I didnt think we had the climate for it up here. I said when I lived in the south I had heard of local militias but was unsure of their intentions. They asked me the names and I said I had no idea it was just rumors and things I had heard. They didnt seem too interested, I got the feeling the cared more about Connecticut even though they said it was a federal task force.

The car looked Mercedes, however I am by no means a car expert

Im sorry some of you want to call BS on this, its your right. A couple of points on that though. Some other people here have said that similar things have happened to them in the past. If i was going to make up a story im sure I could of come up with something a little more interesting, especially the ending. I dont think its very high road but again thats just me.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice even if some of it was a little paranoid it was good to have some place to go and ask about things. If you are interested I took a quick snap through a curtain of the car when they pulled up. Its not a very good shot, I planned on getting some more pictures but I didnt want to be pulling back curtains and pointing dark objects at them, seemed like a good idea before they came, very bad idea during the visit.

So when did State Troopers get the responsibility of following up on internet buying patterns? When, except for undercover LEO, did the FBI start issuing Mercedes? It has been awhile since I was LEO but this story just seems so far out in left field, the only way I am believing it is if I was there.

The mercades probably came from a drug bust. the colchester troop k state police had a dodge viper from a drug bust and they still have a classic stingray corvette they drive to the local schools as part of the d.a.r.e program.

I would now get a 8' high wroght iron fence installed around my property with a busser on the street and an automatic gate opener. I might even invest in a video survelience system for possible future visits.

If they want to talk to you again it can be done through the fence. Also get the one with the spikes on the top.

Call me paranoid but this is the system I have,(8" wrought Iron with spikes & Video survelience, automatic gates and intercom system), and NO ONE gets in.

This is what you get when they can't target the religion of peace and specific counties of origin. Following moronic leads as directed from the PC idiots above in the hope that enough of them will include the real culprits(muslims) on an acceptable racial quota.:fire:

Since the "feds" knew all of jesters log-on names is it not possible that they were monitoring this site for the last two days?

What better way to pick-up the connections of someone you are monitoring? Plant a scare and then see who gets the call for help - standard procedure. Dashed clever, Heh Watson?

Sleep tight guys, don't let the noise from the black helicopters keep you awake.

Seriously, you got no contact info at all? You didn't ask for their cards? Probably everything will be fine, but that's not a good thing to miss.

Nobody gets in over an 8 inch fence?

He done fixed the typo...

I would just really appreciate it that, if Agent Schmuckatelli is actually here, that he would just go ahead and out himself...

1) We'll buy him beer. Shiner Bock, dude?

2) There's a Krispy Kreme on a few miles from my house.

3) I make damn fine coffee.

4) I'd make a significantly larger news splash than this Jester fellow...

5) Downside: I don't own a cat.

Please re-read the underlined part. I would not be surprised if this guy was very familiar with the bail bonds industry, and was asking you leading questions under the cover of his pretended ignorance to see if YOU knew anything about the bail-bonds industry. This is a classic tactic trying to trip you up again. The other cop was not interested...because he was actually very interested and making sure to hear everything you said. Most interviews yield great information in the last seconds as they are leaving because the subject relaxes and calms down (Because he thinks, 'It's over'), and you say some little thing you shouldn't say. An interview isn't OVER until they are GONE.

The state trooper started the conversation and then kind of lead me. He asked mostly followup questions. It kind of seemed like he was trying to trick me into saying something but also seemed very on my side at the same time. They apologized a few times for taking time out of my day and kept assuring me it was routine.

He seemed on your side because he was the 'Good Cop'. Remember, nothing helps them more than to get you to relax and "trust" one or the other and maybe say something to the "good cop" that you wouldn't tell the "bad cop". Basic psychology.

As to insisting repeatedly it was routine, of course they are, because as long as you BELIEVE that it IS routine, you will keep talking and not lawyer up. When cops are trying to get you to believe it is routine, then that is the best indication that it is NOT routine. Is being interviewed at your home by two lawmen so routine that it happens to you everyday? Routine for THEM maybe, but NOT FOR YOU!!

As a wise old cop told me once:
"He had the right to remain silent, but not the ability.
More people talk themselves INTO prison than out of prison."

Let me see.

Get paid to read "gun boards." (Shoot, I do that for free.)

Get to drive a Mercedes. (I drive a Kia.)

Go around and ask annoying questions. (Again, my wife says I do this for free now.)

Free donuts and coffee at a lot of places.

Where do I apply?

I said when I lived in the south I had heard of local militias but was unsure of their intentions.

Oh sure, pass the blame off to us.:neener:
We in the South always have the purest of intentions:rolleyes:

All in all, a very strange encounter. I was more concerned with the asking of screen names (not that I do anything untold with mine). They must have pegged you as a malcontent and it seems that it must have had something to do with inflammatory statements made on the internet (complete WAG here). Very strange. Good gosh, if they ever get around to reading the black rifle web site, there aren't enough FBI agents in existence to track down that bunch:evil:

I think right early in that conversation it would have ended like this:

Do you fellas have any kind of warrant on you for my arrest or a search of my property? No? Well, it's been great talking to you, now I must insist that you leave the premises immediately. Goodbye and take care!

That's why they called first....
I never answer my door, and I've put a cutoff switch on my doorbell. It's rarely on.

If you want to come by my place, you had better call first or you're just gonna stand on the porch indefinitely.

I thought about this for a good long while and decided that I have never ever opened the door to anyone who didn't call first and enjoyed the visit. "Would you like to buy a..." "I'd like to share my religion" "I'm giving you a free consultation for a..." "hey, man.. I was just in the neighborhood and uh, I'm kinda short on money...."

Unless I get a call first, I've never opened the door to any beer, women or folks I've wanted to talk to.

Went over this in an intro to law class back in college... the topic of the lecture was 'search and seizure' law and everyone was telling stories of how they know someone who this or that and the police showed up at their door. the instructor said "you DO NOT have to let them into your home, but if they see a weapon or drugs from teh doorway they can come in." blah blah blah "well, what if we just finished smoking marijuana and it stinks?" "they COULD call that cause to search, but it's not the best reason."

All these other stories of folks who flushed, ingested or hid their stash before they went to the door. so I just raised my hand and said "What if you simply don't answer the door?" "If they don't have a warrant, they'll have to go get one to break your door down. And judges usually aren't terribly nice about giving out warrants without very good cause, and I'm sure they wouldn't want to be woken up to sign a warrant just because of an anonymous tip."

Don't answer your doors, ever. I don't even answer my phone now, no matter who it is. Unless my girlfriend is driving my old beater truck and I'm afraid she's stuck on the side of the road, I do not ever answer my phone. Had an old boss that used to do that, he just turned off his ringer and checked his voicemail all the time....gave him plenty of time to figure out how was 'best' to handle the situation before he returned the call.

Couple a few of the things, if that was actually an FBI and a statie, and it plays nicely with the FBI wanting to have most terrorism in the US be "homegrown." They're nuts over the militias, etc., etc... Why?

Their jurisdiction doesn't go outside the US. So they have to show cause that they should operate in an antiterrorism role here in the US.

First rule: Follow the money. It's all about budget guys... If they do a big takedown of an "organized internet militia group," right before appropriations time, they're golden...

Remember Waco? That was an F-Troop publicity stunt for the same reason.

The FBI operates worldwide, wherever American citizens or interests are located. They tend to do so in an advisory capacity, but can conduct investigations when authorized by the host country.

The "need" for terrorism to be homegrown is 1) to justify some of America's historica political affiliations (don't want to tick off our "allies" and 2) it provides justification for enhancing the FBI's power, not its jurisdiction.

How do you get the UPS guys to call before delivering your ammo?

The lead, copper, and other assorted elements needed to make ammo are mined his backyard. Don't mind the furnaces and foundry on the west side of the compound, nothing to see there.

UPS? HA! No ordering off the intertube, ya know, the FBI is watching! Same thing goes for the pizza guy and chinese food guy. All of this could be avoided if he got rid of his front porch and installed a moat around the house. Replace the front door with a drawbridge and you're set.

Gotta run, The X-Files is on!

It seems pretty obvious to me that they are compiling information on militias and especially those who have an anti-government belief. They are just gathering info in that regard. They found someone who made purchases that militias would make, and went fishing for info for their files/databases.
