Odd thought, rifle in .45 Auto-Rim?

It wouldnt be super practical since there are more powerful and common .44 and .45s.......But that would be one neat rifle!
It would be kinda cool to have a full length tube on a 20-24" barrel.

I have a semi-auto Thompson and it's 16" barrel does not provide much more performance for the 45 ACP over a handgun. Maybe two or three hundred fps boost.

Short of the "just because I can" reason, I do not think a 45 Auto Rim rifle has much use.

I guess a bit of hot rodding the 45 Auto Rim cartridge would boost the performance a bit more.

Just for fun I'd like to see a .50 special...to go with a .50 special Redhawk of course. :)

Man, I gotta play the lottery, that's about the only way I'll ever fulfill these odd gun fantasy's...they get expensive just thinking about them. :(

Stay safe.

The 45acp, rimmed or otherwise doesn't offer the more dramatic velocity increases in a rifle length barrel of the 45 Colt, for example. But I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to a Hi Point levergun....

Why Auto Rim? There are assorted .45 ACP rifles out there, even a few lever action conversions.

I can't imagine getting the short AR and its wide thick rim to feed out of even a tube magazine would be an easy project.

On the other hand, have you heard of the .45 Cowboy Special? Length of an ACP, rim of a LC. Lifter modifications to get it to feed out of a .45 LC lever action, just plunk it in a LC revolver.
A new CS lifter and "30 minutes" work for an 1860, 1866, or 1873.
The Marlin "Widdermajic" takes more work.

Just curious; what model Thompson do you have? I just recently acquired the Kahr M1 World War II version; haven't had a chance to shoot it due to THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN ---- oooops, I mean covid19.

A suppressed 45 ACP/AR rifle has been done. De Lisle Carbine made during WWII.

There have been many copies since and guns inspire by this one since. 45 ACP is a natural suppressed cartridge since a large majority of the available ammo is already subsonic.

I also believe there have been barrels made for T/C Contenders and Encores in 45 AR. Personally I would rather have it in 45 ACP than 45 Auto Rim

The 45 ACP and 10mm I like but I don't see much point to the 450 Bushmaster given the gun already comes in 45/70. I am a huge 450 Bushmaster fan but ballistically speaking it still falls short of 45/70 by a small amount. What would the advantage of a 336 in 450 Bushmaster be over 45/70?

For me specifically, it is legal to hunt with in MI (as well as a few others) and 45-70 isn’t. I have a 450 BM AR but I don’t like ARs for hunting but would use them if I had to.

Ah, that makes sense. Silly case length laws...

I would love to use a 45-70 or 444 instead. I currently use a 44 mag Marlin in MI but would like some extra range and the 450 is an any game animal in North America type round and if I had a lever gun chambered in it, I probably would rarely use any other long gun for hunting, even in bottleneck cartridge areas. Kind of a one gun solution for all of the hunting I do.

I see no logical reason to chamber it in .45AR when .45ACP would be cheaper and easier to feed. I could dig a lightweight .45ACP rifle.

Will rimless cartridges feed at all through tube magazines?

Yes. Marlin and Remington did it regularly with the .35 (.25, .30, .32) Remington "deer and black bear" round.
C.E. Harris had a .44 Marlin converted to .45 ACP, sold it, missed it, did another.
The Grizzly folks linked in post #12 will make the change but you will pay to play.
