Ok fellas. I did it. I finally took the plunge and went out and did it. Thanks to Dubya's grand benevolence, I finally had the (disposible?) cash I needed to go out and get me my very own AR.. I've been pining over one of these babies for years, since, well, since Cornelius (Ed Norton) described it's use to his supervisor in Fight Club. Really, it goes back further than that. I first laid my eyes on one of these beauties back when I was just a wee lad the first time my dad took me to a gun show.. But I digress..

What I ended up with was a DPMS AP4 16" carbine. Due to finals and such roaring up, I haven't taken it to the range yet but I think that's coming due tomorrow. I searched the THR threads in the Rifle section to find a comprehensive thread on this weapon and couldn't find much more than passing commentary on it so I thought I'd go ahead and take some initiative (and a few minutes from studying carbonate stratigraphy and pertography) to start one of my own..

Range reports and pictures to follow but I wanted to see who all out there has the AP4 or similar Panther model. Also wanted to see what the impressions are of it and what experiences (good and bad) folks 'round here might have had or might be having with it..

I've got one, just had it a few months.Put a Burris Tactical 3 X 9-40 scope on it,shoots great.Saving my pennies to put a JP trigger on it,my only real issue with it is the factory trigger, which sucks. Also put on a Badger tactical latch, and a CAA stock saddle to give a better cheekweld.I like it quite a bit,and would recommend it to anyone.I have quite a few semi .308's,and this one is a prized addition.

I had my eye on the AP4 for months, and after checking my mailbox every day for a week, I finally found my tax return check. Immediately all plans for the rest of the day were cancelled. :)

Went straight to the bank, then straight to the gunshop 45 minutes form me house with the intention of buying the AP4. It was used and was going for $650, which would have been a STEAL, but it was GONE.

Still, I left the store with a RRA Standard A2, a RRA Mid-Length Carbine w/ rails, and a Mosin 91/30. :)

Unfortunately, such is a rare treat for a college student like myself. I haven't bought a gun since (2 months ago). :(

Congrats on your aquisition! Time to start buying mags, because as we all know, if things go badly politically, your AR is much less fun with 10-round mags after you've broken all of your old ones.
