So the big question is, where is Betty AKA Runt of the Litter now??

Any one hear from her?

RTFM

She hangs out at other forums now. No images of her may be made into new posters, either, which is why I posted about needing new photo subjects.

I'm not sure why I was chosen to receive a free copy-Oleg swears he had nothing to do with it. As I stated, I wish these people the best of luck, epecially since Oleg had a lot to do with the 1st edition. That being said, by any standards this was not impressive enough to merit $6.50 a copy. Give me some more quantity to go with the quality articles, and better quality paper, as the cover was glossy and the inside was not. Given the dearth of good quality gun related periodicals out there, I believe most of us would support a well done mag, especially if it is truly objective and not a shill for manufacturers. It seems like these folks may be underfunded and are relying on initial subscibers for start-up money. I can't believe enough people will subscribe to make this thing work unless they make some major changes. Good intentions don't impress me. Results do. Show me and then you'll get my money.

Yes, there is gold within the pages. Just subscribed. My wife allowed it if I don't renew one of my car magazines.
What won me over was Robert Boatman's article where he talked about the semantics of the 2nd Amendment. An exerpt:
"Anti-freedom zealots, including academic invalids and hypocrites of the mis-named American Civil Liberties Union, have stood on their pointy heads in tortured attempts to misinterpret this sentance ever since. Those of us who know how to read the English language have no trouble at all."

More:
"What part of NOT do the illiterates out to subvert the Constitution NOT understand."

The rest is very informative and non-confrontational, but I like the tone set.

Too bad their web site is nearly un-viewable on any security conscious browser either.

Providing flash content (I suspect a menu) without a standard HTML alternative is rather stupid.

WhoKnowsWho, is that a C6.45LDA or a C7.LDA?

Oleg, should we tell them that you sent us when we sign up?

I'm humming and hawing over this ...... I really do want the mag' to succeed .. and let's face it ... whilst issue #0 maybe should be better - to attract subscribers .... it will I think improve over time .... unless that is no one takes it up. Catch 22 for them in some ways.

Maybe I'll try just one year .... hoping it'll help em along .. if after 12/12 they ain't got it together then ... it'll die, sadly. It could be a great publication .. for the CCW community. maybe i should send them the link to this thread .... see if they can join THR and give us some more info. Hmmm .. might just do that.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To add ...... just emailed them with this thread link .. be good to have someone drop in and be able to answer questions I think ......
Sirs,
I was pleased to receive my copy of the first mag'. I am a member of ''The High Road'' gun board ... and posted about the mag .. as much as anything cos Oleg Volk owns the board and saw his pics!
Now, I and many carry .. and as such find the mag a great possibility but ... overall the sub' is awful high ... might mean too few subscribers IMO. Anyways .. we are discussing this on the board right now at the link given.
I'd like personally like very much to see you guys succeed .. please . someone come and register and add some thoughts etc to the thread . could be worth your while I think, really.
Pictures are Pictures, but I think for a magazine to last, the articles have to be top notch...
I can't stand the articles that seem like, the article was written BEFORE they actually got their hands on the gun! The glowing reports, the careful tredding not to step on sponsor's toes.. If the articles are excellent, and the layout is excellent, then it will sell.
Concealed Carry Magazine
Thanks to P95Carry for sending the e-mail about this site. I've read the whole thread and I am really regretting the decision to flip the cover image. (A freelance graphic artist told me it looked better!) I'm just an engineer, what do I know?
First of all, I really appreciate all the help Oleg gave me with this first issue. He is an excellent photographer and a good writer.
Is the first issue perfect? Heck no. I put the entire thing together myself during the evenings after my three kids went to bed.
Is this magazine low budget? Heck yea. It's low budget because I'm the only one willing to pay the bills! I've found a few early advertisers (STI, Lone Wolf, Paladin Press & Pearce Grip) and I thank God I found those guys.
I certainly appreciate all of the constructive criticism, and I have every intention of making this thing work. Am I trying to get rich? No. I'm just trying to put out a publication that is not so much about guns but more about people who have the guts to carry a gun.
Thanks again for the the email about this site and I PROMISE that I'll never flip a gun around again.
TIM!!!!! Hey ... you got my email!!! Big Welcome to you :)
I am glad you have dropped in .... I think it both useful to you and to us ... as for ''the flip'' ... hey, not everyone is a THR member and quite so picky! :D
If you are all but solo-ing this then more power to you .... you are doing something not many would even start. I am glad to know that and it helps to make me feel that at least for a year ... I'll sign up and help in that small way to get things off the ground.
You will have gathered .. and more so if you read around ... we are VERY CCW oriented here ... so naturally your mag has an innate interest.
Stick around if you will ... I think you could glean much from us ... and that all might help you get this project launched even more successfully..
Welcome Aboard CCM-TIM,
Glad to see you here.
What can we do to get a copy of the first edition? That way we can see what all of the ruckus is about and perhaps subscribe?
I'll gladly buy one copy to give it a try.
PM me with the amount and address to send it.
ccm-tim,
Welcome aboard. I too am interested in your magazine and in obtaining a copy of the first issue, with the distinct possibility of subscribing. Would you please e-mail me with information on how to recieve a copy?
Thanks,
Frank
P.S. Don't give the flipped image another thought. It's not like it's a big deal, just a simple mistake.
P.P.S. Oleg, speaking of magazines with your pics in them, whatever happened with those pics you took of me for that other mag? Did they ever get published? If so, did they send you any copies?
Tim, hello and WELCOME to THR.
I hope you will join us for more than this one occasion, and thanks P95Carry for letting Tim know we are here.
The more people here on the board, the stronger we are.
Tim, my very best wishes to you in succeeding in your new magazine endeavor, I too may subscribe.
Is there a point, or break over the will allow you to drop the subscription cost?
Is there a "magic" number of subscribers to help you along???
CCM Info
Thanks to all for the kind words.
If anyone wants a free introductory issue, just e-mail me your address and I'll get one to you.
As far as cost goes, I know that $40 seems high. As the magazine grows, the price will eventually drop to the $30 range and the frequency will grow to 8 issues per year.
Furthermore, as soon as I can afford it, I will be changing the inside paper stock from offset text to a coated (glossy) stock.
The editorial mission of Concealed Carry Magazine is and will remain quite politically incorrect. Thus, I am not counting on much "high profile" advertiser support.
Thanks again for your interest in the magazine.
After exchanging PM's with Tim I am convinced he has some good ideas and is deserving of the benefit of the doubt that I created when I adversely critiqued his 1st edition. We all know that there is very little objective reporting of product reviews in most gun related mags. It's also tiresome to see the same reviews of the same products at the same time consistently. I want Tim to succeed by giving us something different to read. I have subscribed and had Tim Fed Ex a box of samples copies to me. Anyone in the Nasville area who wants a copy can send me a PM and I'll get you a copy as soon as I receive them from Tim.
Welcome to THR Tim! I'd like to take you up on that free first issue. What address shall I send my info to?
Also, I'm an aspiring writer, and I was very encouraged to see that you are soliciting articles. I'm wondering about the pics, tho. You specify that you need the manuscript in a .pdf format with pics. Is that set in stone? I'd love to submit something, but I doubt I could do magazine quality pics.
