Bus passengers halt another drunk bus passenger. In Arizona.
Involves drunk with HG and knife.
Was detained by 4 passengers.

ETA: (FOX News channel) Greyhound bus was en route and passenger (drunk) started brandishing HG saying he was intent on shooting everyone. Passengers (4) jumped him, overpowered him, got him off the bus and detained him until police arrived. No mention of if anyone else was armed or not. Evidently he might have had a knife also.

Have not heard further details, but sounds as if would have been a good case for someone besides the drunk being legally armed.

I agree, though if he was drunk then the guy wasn't legally armed* ;)

*Here in TN, drink at all = can't carry. Even if he was under the .08 driving limit, he couldn't have carried here. I dunno what the law in AZ is, but I imagine that even if it wasn't like TNs, he still couldn't have legally carried due to inebriation. I get what you meant though; I'm just being pedantic :D

OOOPS!
Chalk that up to poor phrasing on my part. Wasn't trying to infer that he was legally armed.

Obviously, he wan't legally armed.

On a bus

I believe that it is Greyhounds (assuming it was this company) company policy "no weapons on person or in baggage", but you need to look up the real statement, not just my recollection. The State Statute for CCW in NM states "no guns allowed on a bus (apparently any bus)". Again, the confusion of area/state wide differences in laws brings on mass confusion.

Federal law states no weapons on commercial transportation. Not sure the cite, but I am sure someone will be along to give it.

Not to detract from the OP, but I hate 24 hour news. Since when is something like this national news?

more relevant to society than britney spear's little sister

Federal law states no weapons on commercial transportation.

So, if I work downtown and decide to ride the local city bus to work, I am prevented from carrying my pistol even though I have a CCW license??????

Likewise, if I decide to take my wife out to dinner and call a taxi cab to take us there, I can't carry my legally owned pistol for which I have a CCW license??????

Ummm, I don't know about that. I would be more inclined to believe it if someone could cite the specific law that governs this. It may be a local law somewhere, but I'm having trouble believing that it's a federal law.

Nope, not a law that affects AZ, in any case, many people have ridden the local busses in Tucson, carrying openly, back in the day, and never got hassled. I have seen open carrying taxi drivers.
Amtrak and Greyhound has a no self defense POLICY, not a law that I am aware of.

Tucson Region
Guilty plea entered in bus-hijacking attempt

advertisementA New Mexico man is facing between four months and six years in prison after pleading guilty Monday to trying to hijack a bus on Interstate 10 in May.
According to police, Francisco Jesus Padilla, 24, attacked the driver of a Crucero bus near Interstate 10 and St. Mary's Road and then jumped through the moving bus's glass door when some of the bus's 26 passengers came to the driver's aid.
Padilla was arrested at a nearby Burger King after he ran inside and hid in the freezer.
On Monday, Padilla pleaded guilty to three counts of endangerment in Pima County Superior Court, said Deputy Pima County Attorney Mark Diebolt.
Padilla, who has mental- health issues, told authorities everyone on the bus was a member of the Mexican Mafia and he had to stop the bus to get off.
The bus originated in Albuquerque and was destined for Tucson.
Judge Nanette Warner is scheduled to sentence Padilla Jan. 8.

This makes no mention of him being armed.

The Congress got their law passed saying that they can deny arms to "anyone with a mental disorder", so once the President signs it, we will see less of the "mentally affilicted" using guns for crimes.....we will move on to another segment of society (unemployed middle aged, slightly balding, males?)

Ya'll belly up for your "mental disorder" early.....cause anyone that wants a gun is going to be deemed "crazy" so you won't be able to get/have one.....I for one want to be the first "kook' on my block, don't want to be assigned a mental disorder that everyone else already has:neener:

Boil froggies, boil:fire:

Chipperman,
This did not happen in May. It happened yesterday. Different event. Involved Greyhound bus.

In the report I saw yesterday, there was a man interviewed (LE I believe) that said weapons were involved.

Ran a few searches on foxnews (they had the story on satellite yesterday) just now and couldn't find anything on it.

Guess they decided it wasn't worth the trouble. Guess I shouldn't have posted the story.
