Hey all,
I am on the market for a new rifle. I have a nice, minimalist AK with modern furniture, a few solid ARs (all DI), an SKS, and recently picked up a SCAR 17, as well as a Tavor on an impulse buy, and regret neither. I love the SCAR, and put a lot of money into it (extra parts kit, Stryker Enterprise fully loaded AR10 mag compatible lower, Vortex 1-6x, MREX rail, ACR stock...) and also enjoy the Tavor a lot.
I buy my weapons picturing them being used as much more than just range toys. SHTF-type thinking. I have used the SCAR mk17 and know its capabilities, which is why I place so much faith in my personal 17. However, I have been really stuck about what new rifle to get.
I am hoping to stay in 5.56 or .308, but this will probably be a 5.56. I have an absurd amount of that cal. I am also looking for a piston system.
I have seriously considered and still am researching the following:
1. Barrett REC7 Gen II 5.56
2. ACR 5.56
3. SCAR 16
4. Other piston ARs?? LWRC? S&W? Sig?
I don't have any experience with the SCAR 16. The 5.56 variants I have fired were all mk17s with 5.56 conversion installed (barrel, bolt, lower).
I know the ACR won't be compatible with any parts of weapons I currently own. That is my main concern with that platform.
Anyone with experience with any of those listed rifles, please, let me know what you think!
