Once more with feeling...fillers in revolver chambers

I, too, use a second flask, filled with semolina. I make the spouts on the lathe so it's no great pain to change volume.

Sometimes it's not to put the ball closer to the chamber mouth.
If yer loading on the gun & using light charges, your loading plunger may not be long enuf to seat the ball on the powder.
A bit of cornmeal overcomes this problem.
I load off the gun on a Powder Inc cylinder loader, so this is not a problem for me.
However, a bunch of cornmeal over the powder compresses it a bit and helps avoid chain fires from the front of the cylinder.

One way to avoid screwing up--load powder in 5 chambers, then load corn meal in 5 chambers, then load balls.

Don't forget to count to five....even a magnum cap WILL NOT ignite cornmeal if you mess up and miss one with powder.

Powder Inc. best cylinder loader around. Sure stops the wear and tear on the loading lever on the pistol and parts for ROAs are not available from Ruger now when you ruin one.

Take out one nipple and put the ram into that cylinder.

Load 5 cylinders with powder.

Drop filler into 5 cylinders. Filler, along with moving the ball further forward in the cylinder allows you to verify that you have not double charged one cylinder until you seat the ball and go ooops.

Seat the balls and top off with lube.

I use two (2) TRESCO 0 to 30 grain adjustable pistol powder measures. One for powder and one for filler.

COW flows freely from a plastic mustard bottle. I cannot see how corn meal is going to seal a chamber than an over size round ball which cuts a lead ring does.

The above sequence is what most of the top revolver shooters do.

I leave the cylinder in my c&b's while loading.
I pour the powder in chamber, then I put a felt wad in and leave it towards the top of chamber. On some sunny days you can't see the powder in the chamber and run the risk of a double load or skipping a chamber so that's why I leave the light-colored felt wad towards the top. When all chambers have a felt wad in them - then I lightly compress all the wad's into the powder. Then I fill chamber to the brim with cream of wheat from a 9mm case followed by the ball and seat. Then to the remaining chambers. For me, this procedure reduces my chances of an oversight, especially when the inevitable happens and someone approaches with a question or a cease-fire is called when your in the middle of loading. I've done it like this for many years and thousands of rounds.
