One caliber only?

I like the .357 for wheel gun and lever action, and the .45 ACP for pistols.

Plenty of versatility there and only two sets of dies needed for reloading. Of course, if you get into reloading, you could easily expand your options to rifle calibers if you go with a single stage press.

I'm a revolver fan (.357 mag), from way back. Great for taking on a hunting trip for a good BUG. 9mm is my next choice, for home defense purposes. Good Luck in your quest.

I currently have 3-9mm's and 5-45acp's, and i'm considering going all 45acp because i do plan to reload it in the future, just for alot of the reasons mentioned above. Am i the only one that thinks this way?

I haven't read through the replies, but the only additional expense in reloading two rather than one caliber is that you need another set of dies ($35), turret if you have a turret press ($10) and cache of brass (ave $45 per thousand). Of course, 9mm takes small primers and .45acp takes large primers, but primers cost the same for either size. You can quick change from one caliber to the other on a turret press is about 15 or 20 seconds. And, surprisingly, it takes about the same amount of powder per shell to load 9mm as .45 acp (Example: I load 4.6gr of Win231 for 9mm, and 5.2 grn of Win 231 for .45acp).

So, for the most part, reloading should not be (much of) a consideration of whether you have two calibers or one.

I have:
.22 for rifle and handgun
.223
.308
30-30
.45 ACP
12 gauge

10 firearms total

i have 5 calibers among my guns.
.22
.223
12 gauge
9mm
45 ACP
I carry 9mm for CC because they are usaually smaller, however 45 is so much more fun to shoot than 9mm. Shooting 9mm at the range is like driving a prius when you could have taken a mustang.

Oh...AMONG the guns....then lemme ad:

22-250
243
30-06
35
30-30
22 mag
7mm mag
.223
12 ga
10 ga
16 ga
20 ga
8 mm
50 cal
50 ball
222
300 W mag

There may be a coupla others..... ;)

We're including rifle calibers and shotgun gauges - oh crap!

Um, nevermind what I said before. I've narrowed shotgun down to 12 gauge, but rifles - oh crap!

I've got 30 or 40 rifles I've never even fired. Do we really have to count rifles?

I like shooting .38 SPL out of my Model 10 the most but if I had to have only one gun, I'd go with my Star MOD 30MI. With Ramline's S&W 5900 series mags, I have 17+1 capacity in a strong, reliable accurate pistol. It's just not as fun as the K-frames, though, but I like having the capacity available.

However, my CZ 52s and Tok are great fun and very effective with those Wolf hollowpoints.

But then again, we have my .22s to consider.

I love 9X18 in my Mak as well and my little Iver Johnson pocket pistol in .32 short is a trip.

I dunno, why do you have to make me choose? I feel guilty favoring just one. I'm torn....

I have three 9's and one 9x18. I've always avoided the 45ACP for several reasons. 1) The expense of a good quality pistol. 2) The expense of a freakin' box of ammo, especially these days. 3) I didn't want to deal with such a massive recoil.

However, the other day I got to shoot a Colt .45ACP for the first time and was amazed. My little 9x18 had far more recoil than did the Colt. In fact, I found the Colt .45ACP to be rather docile and a real pleasure to shoot. :D

If the prices ever do come down I may just pick one up and bring it home.

1. A decent quality 45 is pretty much in line with most quality revolvers - 5-800 bucks

2. If ammo's expensive, reload. But I don't see THAT much price difference in the ammo.....

3. You've GOT to be kiddin' me, right?? I can shoot a 45 off-hand or weak-hand all day long w/o recoil even entering as a minor concern. Someone's lied to you if you think a 45 has "massive recoil".

is there anybody out there, that prefers to only own & shoot 45acp pistols?

I own a .357 wheel gun (new & unfired) but I only shoot .45 ACP from my G21s.

I don't have any guns I don't shoot and if I did they would be antiques.
If had to reduce my collection to one caliber it would be to .40 caliber

are you serious? how is this possible with 664 post to a gun forum, that you dont shoot or have any guns, your joking right? do you just have an interest in guns, that much ,i dont understand

I don't have any guns I don't shoot
Please re-read the above carefully. Notice the absence of a comma halfway through the sentence.

He just means his collection doesn't include any 'safe queens'. I can certainly relate to that.

my bad, i was getting ahead of myself:banghead:

Do I have to get in line at the urinal for this one? :uhoh:

I have a few calibers too, but I have been weening myself lately - and yet - there still seem to be several I shoot. Handguns alone require that I reload for .45, 45LC, .44 Mag, .40, .30, .38spcl, and .357. The 7.62x25, .22, .22 WMR and 9mm is so cheap that I can't be bothered, and there's no way I'd consider handloading the Nagant. The .400 Cor-Bon dies cost a bit much and I don't shoot it a lot, and - I can't believe anyone shoots the .25 anymore! Oh, wait, I guess I take out the .32 S&W, oh, and the .38 S&W - but only on leap years. Seriously. I think that must surely be all, you see I'm cutting down...
