ONE GUN for the rest of your life

As of right now, I'd do an M1A Scout Squad synthetic stock with a red dot on it.

.45 cal flintlock. When you guys run outta ammo I'll still have everything I need.

A good choice.

If I could take my reloading kit I would pick the Marlin 357 lever action. If not then I would take the Ruger 77/22 and all the 22lr I could haul.

my CZ 452, there is cheap ammo aplenty, super-reliable, incredible accuracy, quiet, the ability to accept a suppressor...

One gun threads are boring, and unrealistic (at least for me)...How bout we narrow it down to just "one safe" (filled with guns) for the rest of my life...then perhaps I can decide how to fill the safe. ;)

I'm going to go with the AR-15 here also. Reason being is that it's light, ammo is light, has a bullet that has significant knock down power and can hit a target 300 or 400 yards out and with the .22LR conversion bolt, you have 2 guns in one. You can carry 1000 rounds of .22 ammo with no trouble.

well in a true SHTF scenario i would have to take my hand guns and at least one rifle. my pistols would be my 22 and my 9mm revolver. my rifle would be my mini 14. I know the OP said just one gun but I just think that I would have to take three.

Sounds a lot like a marriage to me. I'm going to have to do some more dating before I answer this one. Besides I have too many sweethearts at home that could get jealous! :)

Based upon your scenario, I would take either a Remmy 870 or a Marlin Glenfield M-60.

Based upon real life (carry every day) if I could only have one firearm it would either be a Commander sized 1911 or a 4" S&W in .41 Mag or .45 LC. A .357 would be my third choice.

I'm relatively convinced that a Marlin 336 in 30-30 would be the best all-around survivalist "one gun" because of portability, versatility, durability, field repairability, and ammo availability in most any one-horse-town general store. I'm assuming that if you manage to live a couple weeks into a survivalist situation, all these factors become more and more important.

I currently own a Remington 541T, and love it. But, if all I could have is one the Marlin 60 is likely it. Experience says they are accurate and dependable. With appropriate ammo there's not much you couldn't do in. I sure hope it never comes to where I can only keep one though.

Since you stipulated that it's a SHTF scenario, I'd want a gun with long-range potential. Why let the fight get up-close and personal? I'd probably grab my Garand with a SPAM can or two of surplus ammo. Although I'd probably be just as happy with my scoped Rem 700 in .30-06. Granted, this would be overkill for a lot of the shooting that might need to get done, but the long-range potential would trump that.

I would choose some manner of AK-74 with as much ammo as I could pack. Seems pretty reliable, ammo is cheap and easy to get, and it should last the rest of my life.
You really think 5.45x39 is going to be easy to get in a SHTF situation? You been watching Red Dawn too many times.

already thought this out i'll carry my M-4gery.wife will carry my mossberg 12ga (a scatter gun suites her best) i picked m-4gery because it is chambered in 5.56 nato, and i think you'll have a better chance getting parts for a AR.i know you won't be able to pick the phone up a call midway lol. but still i think you'll have a better chance getting AR parts than you will have getting AK parts.just my opinion......
