How important is a good one-piece mount to put a scope on an AR? Would a $25 mount work decently as well on a medium-use AR as a $80 Burris P.E.P.R. or the like? Thanks for your time!

Check out rra.com. one piece high rise scope mount fro 50 bucks..I ordered 2..seam to be built really well..and it says rock river arm on the side(I like that part but u may not)

The main benefit to a one-piece mount on an AR is having the option of a cantilever mount. Using just rings on a flattop will usually position the scope too far back to get a good cheekweld and shooting position. A cantilever mount lets you fix this. For most scopes on an AR-15 it is somewhere between extremely useful and absolutely essential.

The RRA mount is quite good for the price. I own one of those and two PEPRs and apart from price I would flip a coin. But the RRA costs less and is US-made, so I'll let you figure that out. If you want one check out http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/ as you can get free shipping if your order totals $90 or more and a free t-shirt.

I've never seen a $25 scope mount I'd want to use, but if you're thinking of a specific one, I'd be curious to see a link.

If your scope/receiver setup actually works with plain rings, I like the Warne AR-height rings.

In addition to getting the scope far enough forward, I also like having as few 'bolted together' parts as possible. I bought a SWFA SSALT mount from a guy here recently and so far, it's been a good mount. I think they run about $50. If using a 1" scope, I'm not sure how well it would do because it comes with inserts to convert from 30mm to 1".

You misread my post. Joebob charges $56 for the cantilever RRA scope mount:

$90 is the minimum order to get free shipping. Now if RRA provides free shipping on all order sizes and you don't need anything else, then ordering direct from RRA might make more sense.

A person can always use a couple of spare mags too, Joe Bobs has the Pmags at 13 bucks, once you add them to your cart that is.

Leapers stuff can be decent relative to the price and being Chinese made, but the $56 RRA mount would be a far better choice IMHO.

the big plus is you dont have to worry about alignment of two independent rings.
they do add a little extra weight.

I have both the PEPR and the RRA plus I own this $25 mount from Primary Arms. The Primary Arms mount is surprisingly sturdy and well built for a mount that costs so little.

I had never heard of the SSALT mount before:

It looks absolutely identical to a Burris PEPR (non-QD version).
They are very similar, but the SSALT mounts are all 30mm mounts and they come with 1" inserts (which work very well). I have both and will probably order another SSALT if I need another non-QD AR mount.
