One thing about the pistol powder shortage...

I would find it interesting to hear of make-do pistol loads that currently don't have any manufacturer data. Some of the new shotgun powders, for instance, seemed to be in stock throughout at least the first half of the shortage.

Someone here was experimenting with Alliant Steel for pistol loads...can't find it now. Have not heard much about the results...maybe it didn't go well.

The shortage seems to be easing up just a little bit, at least locally.

Saw Unique, Red Dot, WST and Titegroup in the local GS recently. It's been there for a few weeks. Normally it's completely sold out.

Seen a lot more pistol powder online lately. Prices are seemingly higher than two years ago, but it's slowly showing up more.

Had to try different powders because of the shortage. Now back to the old staples (W231). ;)

ColtPythonElite I don't think even my local shop has been able to find that much. Did you get it online?

FWIW, I just picked up 14 lbs online, Power Pistol and BE-86, from Recobs. Could have gotten more. They have had BE-86 for a while, but with a 4 lb limit it did not make sense to order just 4 lbs until the Power Pistol also became available.

I tried to buy locally. But with all the running around I did, mileage and gas, I figured I'm better off paying the haz-mat.

Maybe that will change soon.

This shortage has been great for me in some respects. I started reloading in 2011 so the shortage hit me hard. I had to buy whatever I could get my hands on. The results have been some great loads that I would never have come across otherwise. Things like 800x loads for .357 and .44 gave me the ability to work up great accuracy when lack of powder would have left me twiddling my thumbs. Granted, 800x will never be my #1 choice because of the metering but I would not have touched it with a 10 foot pole had I the choice.

I still have a jug of the stuff and will still pull it out and load up a few rounds when I am feeling at leisure to hand weigh the charges.

I'm with MS, I Learned my lesson years ago, when powder and other components are available I stocked up. I haven't had to change my shooting habits at all.

I picked up a 4 pounder of 700x early last year when things were getting pretty tight. I needed to load a bunch of 38 and 700x would not meter well with anything in the 158gr charge range. I casted up a bunch of 105gr rn bullets, powder coated them and loaded them up with 4.7gr 700x. They printed low but they are great shooters. once I adjusted my sights they are tackdrivers.

I still have a couple thousand of these loads and shoot them more often, but I have switched back to 158gr bullets simply because the 105gr rn mold is a two cavity and the 158gr is 6 cav. lee has a 6 cav 105gr swc mold that im thinking about getting...
