One up on the Whataburger thread, WWYD?

If five armed gunmen entered a restaurant where I was eating, I would probably:

  • Do nothing and allow myself to be tied up, because it would be silly to shoot it out against five me

  • Would jump up and shoot all of them (or at least I would try)

  • I would try to hide from the gunmen and dial 911, but if discovered, I would submit to them

  • I would hide, and only shoot if they came after me or my significant other

A warning shot is perhaps (probably) the worst thing that you can do, since it could cause the BG's to panic and start shooting indescriminately, reveals your position and loses you the element of surprise and potentially endangers others, because of a ricochet, bullet fragment etc.

If you must discharge a weapon, then you must employ it in a manner that, is justified by the immenent threat of deadly force being used against you or another.

A warning shot is a reckless discharge of a firearm and may result in charges and the loss of your CCW permit and maybe being prohibitied from posessing a firearm forever, depending on the laws of your state and maybe depending on the class of the charges, Federally as well.

If you and others are not in imminent threat of ones life, sit and watch and be a good witness and only employ your pistol when absolutely needed.

I don't normally advocate warning shots, but if you have a safe place to put a round and you think it would cause the bad guys to leave, would you consider it?

Yes---if "safe place" means the skull of one of the BG's, that is...

I can see the newspaper headlines right now:

"Vigilante Guns Down 5 Robbers Execution Style."

or: "Vigilante Dies In Gun Battle With Restaurant Robbers, 4 Employees Killed In Crossfire."

I don't care what the media says---just as long as I'm around to read it! (& my lawyer can help me make a buck from the slander suit) :p

If you and others are not in imminent threat of ones life, sit and watch and be a good witness and only employ your pistol when absolutely needed.

And when the BG's decide to leave no witnesses?...:scrutiny:

I don't believe I said sit on your hands and keep your weapon holstered, I did say go to ground and watch and wait, if the situation starts to go down hill, then go for it.

Seems, like the line "employ your pistol when absolutely needed" was self explanitory, but I guess, I will need to take up more bandwidth explaining everything, in detail.:banghead:
